Marriage is what brings us together
Jun. 26th, 2016 10:03 amA year ago we got the news that the Supreme Court said again that separate but equal doesn’t work and there was no gay marriage and straight marriage but marriage. A year later civilization still is standing and the institution of marriage is doing as well as it was a year and a day ago.
I have gone to a couple of weddings in the past year and had a number of friends get married. I had two friends who had been together for a very long time but they wouldn’t tie the knot until her gay brother could do the same if he wanted to. They did the deed about 6 months ago after about 20 years of planning. The brother is still single but dating someone that looks to be serious.
Nothing changed in our marriage contract when our friends finally had their marriage recognized by the federal government or they got married in the state that had told them they couldn’t.
Not that there haven’t been bumps along the road including people taking the law into their own hands or coming up with some pretty lame excuses as to why they couldn’t issue a license. Some states tried some legal tricks but got smacked down pretty hard so we have less of those shenanigans.
Recently things have calmed down as people see that life really hasn't changed that much except some merchants now have more people buying goods and products from them.
I am grateful for this ruling and all that followed for my friends.
