This episode is why I watch Doctor Who. The speech that the Doctor gives on War and its consequences both big and small was brilliantly written by Peter Harness and Steven Moffat and acted by Peter Capaldi. It is a thing of beauty.

When I was much younger and people asked why do you like Doctor Who I would point to the episode “Genesis of the Daleks” and the speech the Doctor gives about does he have the right to commit genocide and end the Daleks before they even start. It was an awesome speech written by Terry Nation and performed by Tom Baker.

That speech and this speech are some of my favorite Doctor Who moments of all time. And they are of a piece since each reflects on things that the Doctor has done and might do. It expands the character so much.

Overall I enjoyed this a lot. I was sort of iffy after the last episode but this one had all the answers to any problems I had to the first part so as a whole, it worked.

So bravo to all involved in the making of that episode. It is one that will live in Who fans hearts for a long time.

Spoilers behind the cut and in the comments of course.
