It is kind of funny that when I get ramped up into puppet-land, my writing input goes to about zero. It seems like I can either build puppets or write but my brain is uncomfortable with trying to do both.

I think my brain needs to get over its bad self.

It was very quiet around here yesterday. With Caroline down in Florida and Peter off signing at Jim Hanley’s Universe, I had about 8 hours in the house without anyone in it besides me and the cats.

Did I dance around ala Tom Cruise? Nope, I cleaned. When I get everyone out of the house I can clean and organize because I can make a mess cleaning up and then cleaning it up. Got the living room and kitchen knocked into shape for Peter while I am out of town.

That and paint an eyeball for a puppet. Now that it’s dry, I can place it in the head and continue to move this one to completion.

Figgy still misses her human. She was sitting looking out the window about the time that Caroline comes home from school. After that time passed, she went upstairs and meowed outside Caroline’s door. She keeps looking for her human. I think when Caroline gets back, she is going to be a Velcro cat for a while.

My mind is moving a mile a minute trying to sort out what needs to be done before I leave on Saturday to go to Florida. I am spending next week with my family. This will be the most concentrated time we have had with each other in at least 20 years. It will be fun. Caroline is looking forward to spending time with her aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents. It will be my first downtime since the stroke.

And that shows how far we have come since that fateful day at Disney. Considering what could have happened and what did happen, we know we are very lucky and very thankful for where we are today. Peter knows how lucky he is that he is back to pre-stroke form. I feel perfectly comfortable leaving him on his own in the house for a week.

I discovered Weird Al probably the way a lot of people my age did which was through the Dr. Demento radio program. He had a new album this past week entitled Mission Statement. To celebrate he is releasing a video a day based on the songs on the album for eight days. So far my favorite is Word Crimes. It appeals to my inner editor. He has still got it. Also if you haven’t seen him in concert and you like his brand of comedy, I encourage you to do so.

Some interesting phone calls have happened and will be happening over the next couple of days. Think good thoughts for us that once the dust settles, we’ll be better off than we are now. It is the usual might lead to nothing or might be really good kind of stuff that is a part of our lives.

Well back to puppet land.

I am grateful for opportunities but even more grateful when those pan out in our favor.
