Two projects MUST BE DONE before I depart for London.
And then there is the usual stuff that must be done before we depart so my next week is going to be a busy one. This includes making sure we have the various plugs and the like that we need to keep our electronics going.
This weekend Caroline and I are finishing up her science project so all she has to do is the write-up. We need to turn it in before we leave. It is going to take most of the week to gather the data and set up the experiment. We are creating water filters with recycled materials to see if we can clean water that would be then boiled and used for drinking. We figure that if we can put it together with things that you can find in poor areas, it would be a good thing to create since so many children die from bad water.
This morning it was hard to get out of bed. I have expressed before my dislike of daylight saving time and this morning I express it again. It is pointless.
Through Neil, I found out about WorldCon, Hugo presenters, and fandom’s dark secret of being haters. Apparently because of a few very vocal individuals, those sitting at the Hugo banquet rather than being entertained by Mr. Ross, who is a fan and a published author IN the genre, will get the usual awkward presentations that will be forgotten much like the winners of the Hugo. Most people outside of science fiction now know World Con and the Hugo awards now due to the publicity this is getting. Nice going a small number of people in fandom for setting fandom back about 20 years in people’s perception. For a group of people who declare that they are such forward thinkers, they have some things very backwards. Honestly we, being the fandom community, are not all social awkward and socially inept or this vindictive. Yes, I understand that Mr. Ross’ humor is not beloved by all but he has hosted other awards shows including comic book ones and there have been no complaints.
And that is something that is bothering me, people getting upset before anything happens. There are these big ruckuses that are a lot of noise about nothing. People are adamant that they are never going to do something before all the facts are in. And when it happens, everyone seems to forget what they were objecting to or was telling everyone that it would never work. We seem to spend a lot of time getting upset over trivial minutia that really doesn’t matter. I learned that in spades last year with Peter’s stroke and the aftermath, which is still ongoing.
I am looking forward to the second half of the season of Once Upon a Time which starts up tonight. I am tired of the fan over reaction to various story elements that may or may not be true. Yes my favorite character bit the dust in the last episode, but I am willing to wait and see what the writers are going to do with the aftermath rather than pout and declare I am never going to watch the show again. Again with the “if they do this then I am going to throw a tantrum problem”.
It is nice to watch Spring Training baseball.
I am grateful for weather that hints that spring is around the corner.
