For Spring Hath Sprung
Mar. 21st, 2013 08:37 am How pierceful grows the hazy yon!
How myrtle petaled thou!
For spring hath sprung the Cyclotron,
How high browse thou, brown cow?
Lyrics by Walt Kelly and copyright the Kelly Estate
That is what comes to mind when I hear that it is the first day of spring and that song was in my head most of yesterday. The actual title of the piece is “The Hazy Yon”. Walt Kelly was the creator and mastermind behind the comic strip Pogo, which I read as a child not understanding all of it. As an adult, I have a better idea of what he was talking about however I do occasionally have to look up a reference. There are a lot of current comic strip artists who list Walt Kelly as a major influence on them and their work.
I have a number of flowers coming up right now. The last cold snap doesn’t seem to have deterred them from continuing to grow. We might have flowers by Easter which seems early this year. Easter that is not the flowers.
Today is a rehab day which takes up about half the day. I am thinking laundry for the second half along with some doll making or starting to make the doll. Caroline has Girl Scouts this evening and there is the science fair as well. Busy day for her and me. And pretty full day for Peter as well.
Need to get some other stuff off my plate as well. Off to make the day a productive one.
I am grateful to the works of Walt Kelly which has given me many hours of entertainment.
