It is warm today. There is a stiff breeze but the sunshine is making it quite nice. I can finally finish an outdoor project that has been pending since the rains came in.

Caroline is off to school. The only symptom left was the nagging cough but cough syrup seems to be taking the edge off of that. She is happy to be going back and she is almost caught up on her school work. She is going to be done this evening.

I was happy to see that both Ohio State and Georgia Tech won and in doing so assured themselves of post-season play. I am watching the Rose Bowl this year. It looks like Georgia Tech will be playing Clemson for the title. I am hoping that someone in my area will be airing the Georgia Tech vs. Georgia game.

I didn’t see the end of the Colts vs. Pats game but apparently it was a good one. There were are lot of games that were close and a couple of blow outs as well. I can still see a Colts vs. Saints Superbowl.

There were two passing this week I want to comment on.

I met Dr. Frank Manley while I was at Emory. The theater was producing his two plays that were entitled “Two Masters: A Play in two parts” The first piece was called “The Rain of Terror” and the second “An Errand of Mercy”. Those plays brought a whole new group of people into my life, many I am still friends with to this day. I took a class from him and enjoyed it a lot. After I graduated from Emory, our paths kept crossing and we struck up a friendship. He was pleased that I got into Yale. I hadn’t seen him in years nor his wife and I regret that because they were both splendid people. I found out that he passed recently. My sympathies to his family and friends. Dr. Manley influenced a lot of people through his life and he was a great teacher and conversationalist. I will miss him.

Edward Woodward came onto my radar with a movie called “The Wickerman” which was my second R rated film. My first was Zardoz. I went to see it with my friends and a couple of their parents. It was a really weird kinda scary film. I thought that Mr. Woodward did a great job in the film. It was the second version to be released in the US so it had parts that were not shown in the US originally. I watched “The Equalizer” off and on and enjoyed it a lot. I knew that if I saw his name, there was going to be one solid performance in the thing I was watching. Never met the man personally but came close a couple of times. I know a number of people who worked with him and said he was a driven actor who was amazing to watch and they learned from him things that they had never thought about. My sympathies to his family and friends but especially to Peter Woodward, his son, who I do know.

I am grateful for such lovely fall days.
