Australia 2009 Day 4
Oct. 18th, 2009 03:04 pmn which we spend most of the day at the convention.
Caroline has a new favorite cookie called a Tim Tam. They are chocolate coated with a chocolate cookie and a soft chocolate center. It’s a lot of chocolate wrapped in one cookie. Fortunately they also had fresh fruit which she also partook of and she had a turkey sandwich for lunch with cucumber. Trying to keep her diet balanced at home is hard enough, here, so far, we have managed it but it can be a challenge at points.
Caroline has discovered that she can play video games “all by self” as she used to say. She played the new Ninja Turtles game and did pretty well with it. But the game she fell in love with and won a couple of times was the Marvel Super Squad game. She would wait her turn and then she would play either the Invisible Woman, Ms. Marvel, or (her favorite) Storm. It took her a few tries but then she was kicking avatars and taking names. She was so proud the first time that she won, she ran back to her daddy to tell him all about it. Bill Sienkiewicz asked if she had gotten an award or a prize for winning. Caroline said no but it was OK because she has Won! Later that day Bill presents Caroline with a drawing of a Trophy because he thought she deserved an award for winning. Caroline was so very happy with it.
Caroline also learned a fun trick with Popsicle sticks from Chris Heyerdahl. You take four sticks, bend them together in sort of an A pattern then toss them against the wall where they break up and you do it again. Chris was kind enough to take the time to make sure that Caroline knew how to do it. He’s great with kids.
Caroline traded pictures with a couple of the anime voice actors. She drew Sailor Moon or one of the Sailor Scouts for them and they drew one of the characters that they voiced for her. Travis was thrilled to met Caroline because she was the first fan of Marvel’s the Superhero Squad Show that he had met. He did the Hulk for her which sent her into a fit of giggles. We got a chance to sit down with the Robot Chicken squad for a bit and catch up on stuff. They are doing pretty well right now and deservedly so.
Towards the end of the convention, Caroline got to do the one thing she really wanted to do but hadn’t been able to. She got into the wrestling ring. She got into the ring with a pillow and a bunch of other kids and they had the best pillow fight ever. She was about a head shorter than most of the kids but she held her own and even took down one of the taller kids. She came out grinning from ear to ear. Caroline had a very good convention.
Today (being Monday) we are going to Philips Island to go see the penguins and other Australian animals along with some landscape outside the city. Then Tuesday we have a couple of things that we could do or might do but we are playing that one by ear because Wednesday is our next travel day to New Zealand.
I am grateful that we all had such a nice convention here in Melbourne.
