puppetmaker: (Caroline and me)
(Since this is the 3rd time I have done the LJ Idol, I have decided to try a slightly different tact. If you care to read the previous editions of this entry they are here and here)

Kathleen David is a rather unique genetic experiment by her parents (but then aren’t we all?) that they have given their stamp of approval to. Her siblings got the same stamp of approval and were collectively known in Southeast Science Fiction fandom as the O’Shea Clan.

Kathleen has proven her skills in many arenas over the years. She has won awards for both her art and her costumes. She is a published author of a Doctor Who short story among other things. She is an Equity Stage Manager with a long list of credits and an MFA from the Yale School of Drama. She is a Master Puppeteer and Puppet Builder. She is a book editor among other jobs that she has had over the years. Her costumes have received both awards for workmanship and for the over all costume. The David Clan is well known at both Farpoint and Shoreleave for coming up with some really insane costumes that leave you will a smile on your face and a chuckle in your heart.

If you read her blog for a period of time, you can get a sense on how much family means to her. She is married to the writer Peter David and has three stepdaughters and one daughter. Recently the story changed greatly by Ariel, the youngest stepdaughter, going off for her first year of college leaving Caroline declaring that she likes her family of four better than her family of three. Caroline likes numbers a lot. Her daily web log has a lot about what the family is up to. But also contains her adventures with Peter and her other friends which can be quite fun indeed.

We hope you enjoy Kathleen’s entries in the LI Idol for 2009/2010 season and will continue to read even outside the entries. We give this blog a serious two thumbs up.

What other reviewers have said about Kathleen David (And she thanks them for their reviews)

Kath O'Shea David is a delightful blogger and even more delightful friend. While always overworked, she manages to always see the bright side of things and is a fantastic friend. She has a slightly dark sense of humor, but balances it with the making of puppets, something cheery and light. A Jim Henson fan, Kath pays homage to him in all of her glorious art work.

Perfectly complemented by her brilliant spouse, Kath is also the alpha female in a troop of lovely ladies, including the youngest slugger on the team who is being raised to be as awesome as her parents. An international and national traveler, Kath is someone welcome at any table for glorious stories and fascinating views on life, as well as a caring and generous heart.

Two thumbs way up.

...camera pans to the anthology laid on a table, the one which includes Kath’s short stories...

...camera follows to Caroline getting ready for school. A female voice calls from offsite. We can't hear what the voice is saying, but suffice to say it's probably something like "Are you ready?"

...camera pans back to the puppets...maybe something to do with DragonCon and/or Peter...back to the puppets...focuses in on a couple of the more interesting ones...

VOICE: This is only but brief glimpses of an extraordinary woman...

Or why I am not the best traveler in the world

Honestly once I am on the plane that is taking me to my destination, I’m fine. Getting to that plane can make me a bit of a basket case. And the day before I can be a total loon. Once I am moving towards my “goal” then things calm down a bit.

However today is Looney Toons Day for me. I have to finish the laundry, figure out what we are going to bring on the plane and what we are going to check. I have to make sure we have the things we need to take along with all those little extras that I am going to need because we will be on the other side of the globe. I also need to make sure that the cats are taken care of and we have the food and things that they need to be healthy and happy while we are gone. I have to charge batteries for various electronics. The list goes on and on and I have that feeling of dread that I am going to forget something.

So I am going to start with point A and work my way to D-day and the go.

I am grateful for such opportunities for travel.
