Dec. 30th, 2008

Hard to believe that in less than 48 hours, we are out of 2008 and starting 2009.

I have our calendars ready to go this year. The family calendar will be "Princess Bride" this year and my personal one will be the Froud Fairy calendar. Caroline has a Tinkerbell calendar and Ariel has one with David Tennant.

The wind is howling outside our house. I am so glad that I am rather obsessive about making sure that the decorations outside the house are tied down well. I do have to check them later today.

Shout out to Gracecat, I found a new Misty Lackey book that is in the Valdemar series called "Foundation" which came out in October and I totally missed it.

I will be glad for this year to be over. There were bright spots and I am not saying that good things didn't happen, but overall it sucked like a Hoover or a Black Hole depending on the part of the year. Here's to 2009 being a better year for all of us.

I could list a bunch of stuff but I think I would get too depressed at this point and everyone is doing lists right now. I may change my mind and do a list entry tomorrow.

I think I am going to take a little time today to think about the next year. What I want to do in it. What I want to change from this year. I will probably make a list for me.

This year has been a big one for Caroline. She started school and loves it. Her abilities for drawing and letter writing have grown leaps and bounds. She loved to count and write her numbers out. Her vocabulary, which was pretty extensive for a 5/6 year old, is growing as is she. We had to buy her new shoes because her feet were too big for the shoes we bought her in August. Clothes that fit at the beginning of the school year are starting to look a little short on her. It is amazing to watch her grow up.

My bowling game improved in 2008. I threw my first 200 game and 500 series. My average is up 20 sticks and still climbing. Last night I had a 188, 146, and 156 with a 136 average. My team won 2 out of 3 games and total wood. Not bad for being short one player.

Conventions were fun. I met a lot of people. We went to a couple of new conventions and had a grand time. We also went to our standards conventions and had a grand time. I am looking forward to seeing my con buddies next year and making new con buddies too. I am still on the fence about some costuming stuff but I think I know what we are doing at Farpoint.

The creative side of my life took some hits but also some leaps and bounds. I was published in a Big Finish Doctor Who anthology, which is my first professional sale on my own. I went over the various things I have worked on as a writer and was rather amazed as to how many things there were. I wrote a grand total of 274 words for the Novel writing month which is a new low for me. I may have to give myself a weekly word count to see if I can get anything done that I have started this next year. I created a new form of doll called the Gawblin Boys that is really reflective of my style which I have been searching for. I made paper dolls as did Caroline. I made more puppets last year than I had in a while (Doctor Who set aside). I plan to do more of that next year. I want to be more creative next year and have visible manifestation of my creativity.

I am grateful for friends and family who have seen me through the good times and bad this year.
