To those who celebrate these holidays today.

Snow is over and we now have heavy rain and a lot of wind. I think we are going to stay inside dry and warm. Our sidewalk is in compliance with the local ordinances so we don't have to deal with that in the rain.

Next two days is all about the packing and getting ready for the trip.

Peter and I have been watching through our screeners.

Last week we saw "Frost/Nixon" which was very well done. I remember the Watergate hearings that we listened to on a transistor radio at the beach house we went to every year. I remember Nixon resigning. If Frank Langella is not up for an Oscar, it will be a crime. I think it is one of his best performances ever.

We also saw "Burn after Reading" which I am glad we didn't pay for. It had its moments but over all I was left rather unsatisfied. I felt that the last 5 minutes of the film was created to cover up that they ran out of money to finish the film. Solid cast but it felt like they were in several different types of films rather than one. There were flashes of brilliance at times but the whole product especially the ending just didn't live up to what the trailers had led me to believe the film was like.

On Friday we saw "Tropic Thunder" which was so much funnier than I thought it was going to be. It was worth it for the "trailers" esp. the one with Toby Maguire. I don't know why I was as surprised as I was by how good the film was. The cast was excellent all the way through.

Last night we saw "The Wrestler." Wow! That film is amazing. Depressing as all get out and very realistic as to what happens to old wrestlers and the up and comers trying to grab the brass ring and get into the big time. Mickey Rourke is another one who should be up for an Oscar as should Marisa Tomei for her role. It was amazing but I am glad I saw it on the small screen rather than a movie screen because they were using that shaky camera style that tends to make me motion sick.
