I know every time I say that I am going to be offline for a bit, I end up writing rather consistently here.

So there might be snippets every day or something could take me into a rant and then you'll get one of my longer entries.

Today is odd for Caroline since she expected to go to school and found out that she is not. She did have that enforced by her teacher that there would be a break this week. She really likes her teacher a lot. She had been drawing pictures of her time at school. When she draws her teacher, she always puts a big smile on the face.

I did get us a new toy yesterday. Because of the fall schedule, we switched out for a DVR for the main room of the house. Chuck being on the same time as Sarah Conner as Dancing with the Stars finally put the nail in the coffin for the number of VCRs and DVD recorders. So now we will have a lot few disks cluttering up the place. We do have a time limit as to how long we can hold onto the episodes but if we haven't caught up in a 14 day period, then we are really not trying to keep up with the show.

There are also other options out there now that didn't exist even 5 years ago. ITunes and the various network websites that allow you to watch TV on your time. I guess it is the next logical step to our VCR culture. Once we could tape sometime for later, we took control of our TV watching. And that was empowering. Then the Internet came into play once people's computers got fast enough to watching something from online. This trend starts with music. We could create audio-tapes of our records and radio shows before we could record our favorite TV show.

I recently sat down with Caroline and watched "The Secret of the Muppets" together. While we were watching, I transferred the show onto DVD so I would have another copy as tape goes bad over time. And eventually I will probably move that show onto another format to preserve it. Or Disney will finally release the Jim Henson Hour which might be tricky since Sony has (had) the rights to distribute the Storyteller which was part of that. Also I am unclear as to who owns Dog City.

I am grateful for the DVR which made last nights recordings so much easier.
