That fabulous Glam-Rocker turns 60 today. David Bowie is one of those artists that I discovered through a friend as a teenager and it was love at first sound. So the toast is "The Thin White Duke". May he continue to break his rules for music and recreate his sound again. I saw him and Iman walking through the streets of New York probably right before Iman gave birth to their daughter (she looked very pregnant at the time). They were holding hands and talking. I picked up on them because Bowie laughed at something Iman said and he has a rather distinctive laugh. My rocker union buddies who do most of the concerts in Atlanta say that he is one of the easier rock stars they have had to deal with and they are always happy to hear that they drew his show.

Recently a young man died after being hit by a commuter train which is a tragedy no matter how you cut it. He was well liked by his schoolmates and was an honors student. He was also know as 'Kos' which was his tag name for all the graffiti he and his friends left all over the neighborhood. He was tagging (defacing) train-signaling equipment when he got hit. His parents are suing the railroad for allowing people easy access to the train tracks which is dangerous. Now my sympathies are with the family in the loss of their son. The death of a child is tragic. And that is all this is, a tragic accident which was put into motion by the actions of their son who decided to go out with his buddies and 'decorate' a signal box with spray paint. He was going to get on the tracks no matter how well the fences were installed. The spot where he might have gone through to get to the tracks has a big sign informing people that it is illegal to go past this fence and there are hazardous train tracks on the other side. If he and his buddies had been caught by the rail road, they would have been charged with trespass and defacing railroad property. Which is what I wish had happened but it didn't. If anything the parents in the area ought to use this to keep other teens off the tracks show an example of consequences of ones actions. Suing the railroad is not going to help anyone.

I have an interview for a puppet building position with a company in New York on Wednesday. Which means I have to update my portfolio with my more current stuff and find the pictures of my older puppets. I also have to pack up a couple of doll parts for an exchange I am doing over this year. The journal will probably take longer than finding the spare doll parts. I also want to get one costume done for Farpoint. I have a total of 5 but once I finish the first one, I'll have 3 of them on track. I am probably not going for workmanship this time around since I am figuring out what I have to do minimally to get the idea of the characters across. Except the first one which I am making for me and want to have it in order to wear again later this year. I did get the Christmas lights packed away yesterday since Saturday was 12th night so that is done.

Apparently we are going to get a taste of it after this next front moves through. We have rain and fog today which is suppose to clear out and the temperature will drop into the 30s (which is still higher than the usual average) for a couple of days and then we are back into the 50s again for the weekend with more rain possible. The first chance of snow looks like next Wednesday at the earliest if at all. I really am thinking that we are going to have snowstorms late in the season this year. We are getting the moisture we need to maintain the water table just in the form of rain rather than snow.

I am grateful for David Bowie especially in tight pants.
