Today is going to be a simple day for us. I am watching the 80th The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. They are going to fly the balloons but it was a close call. Peter and I are taking Caroline to see Happy Feet and then to a Thanksgiving lunch at a local restaurant that has a great special for the day. This means that I am not trying to juggle the dinner since we are going to do something simple if we are hungry later.

Yesterday I got some possible good news about something I have been invited to write a piece for. Now waiting for the licensor to sign off on the story and I am off and writing. More later when I can say more. I did go to the grocery store and timed it just about right. As I left the lines behind me were starting to get absurd and people were getting mean while jockeying for position to checkout. I gave my sympathies to my favorite grocery clerk and got the heck out of Dodge.

Tomorrow I am holing up in the house and staying away from all stores even with some rather tempting coupons that have appeared. Caroline has been very happy looking through all the toy catalogues that have appeared on our doorstep. So any shopping I have left will be done when everyone else is at work.

I am thankful for fun toys for both children and adults. Peter and I have a lot of cool toys as do Caroline and Ariel. Caroline has her favorites but they tend to rotate like the stuff animals in her bed seem to fall in and out of favor. Last week it was ponies and this week it is the panda family and probably next week will be the puppy family. I have rediscovered a lot of toys through her.

I am thankful for craft materials that I can use with my daughter. She loves to draw with just about anything that will draw. We have started to branch out into painting. I got her a pair of scissors that are age appropriate so she will stop trying to use mine. She wants to learn to knit and sew. She wants to know what I am making. She usually starts with asking me if I am making a puppet and then moves onto doll then costume.

I am thankful for the local playgrounds. Caroline is an energetic kid and she loves to just run and play. The local playgrounds allow her to play with all kinds of other children and playground equipment. I think the one with the Pirate Ship is her favorite even though we don't make it there often.

I am thankful for books that I read to Caroline. Her current favorite is Olivia but again it changes. She really like pop-up books. She loves flipping through her Scooby-Doo comics. She enjoys being read to and there are some she had memorized so she'll 'read' it to me.

I am thankful for Caroline's growing mind. She is learning so fast. We found out the other night she knows her numbers up to 20 (I knew she has it up to 10). She is recognizing letters, shapes, and colors. Her ability to communicate is so much better than it was a year ago. She is telling stories and creating tales as she plays with her toys. Adventures are the flavor of the day.

She is a happy and healthy child and for that I am eternally grateful.
