Broadway Bears 2006
May. 22nd, 2006 09:25 amLast night was the snow date for the 2006 Broadway Bears auction that we attend every year. It is usually in February but this year there was a blizzard that cancelled it. Getting there was more than half the adventure. Not only did you have some very major car accidences on the Long Island Express way but you also had all the fans trying to get to Shea for the rubber match in the Mets vs. Yankees series. So your alternative route was blocked by all the traffic trying to get to the baseball game.
We made it with not much time to spare so we didn't get to look at the bears as long as we would like up close but we did get to see them. I chatted with a number of people that we have met through the years and got our bear back that we lent to them for a display they did. We had a lovely table for the auction and were sitting with people we had met in previous years which was nice. At one point I looked up and saw my master puppet teacher John Tartaglia who has a new series on the Disney Channel later this year called Johnny and the Sprites. I went over and we quickly caught up on news and hugs. He and Leo are going to be teaching another master class this summer which I would love to take. He was there to auction off the bear based on him and his puppet Rod from Ave Q. We got a couple of Bears that we wanted and the charity made some good money for a good cause.
On the ride home we listened to the end of the baseball game and thanks ESPN that they had an 8:00 start time because we made it past Shea before the game let out. The ride home was significantly shorter than the ride to the city. We gathered Caroline up from her babysitters and came back home. Next year I think Caroline will be old enough to go to the auction since she will be almost 4 and 1/2.
I am grateful that we got to go to the auction.
