Muppet News

Brian Henson was promoting the Dinosaurs DVD on Now Playing. I was just happy to hear that they are releasing Dinosaurs on DVD when he dropped a few other hints about what is next for his company. Dark Crystal 2 is chugging along as they work on getting funding together for it. I figured from what some other people I know connected to the project that this was probably about where they were in the project. Raising the funds can be the hardest part of making a film. Jim had a heck of a time raising the money for any of his films and he had the Muppets to promote his work. So Brian conformed an internet rumor that they are working on a Fraggle Rock feature film. If Dark Crystal 2 happens and does well, the obvious follow-up to Labyrinth would not be far behind. But Henson’s not thinking of an outright sequel for that world. “Actually, we’re talking about doing something different with Labyrinth but I can’t really talk about it. So we’re not really working on a sequel for Labyrinth right now, but Dark Crystal we are.” I think he may be talking about the comic book that Tokyo Pop talked about doing a couple of years ago especially since they are talking about doing something different.

Froud News
I forgot to talk about this when I got out of the course. Wendy has a book coming out this summer that is about her dolls and promises to be a great book for those who love her work. She is also working on a dollmaking DVD that would basically take the New York course and put it in DVD form so you can learn what I learned at the seminar. The only advantage I can stress about taking the course is that it is rather hard to ask questions and get answers from a DVD. Also Wendy tends to show you how to solve a problem on your doll so not only is it your work you have a little bit of Wendy's as well. The Frouds will be at the San Diego Comic Con and Faerieworlds festival. It is worth your time to meet them. They are good people.

Other Puppet Stuff
I just turned in a short article on Puppetry and Storytelling through the ages. Having done that I really think there is an entire book on the subject out there. I'll put it in my "maybe" pile of things to do with my life. I have also been thinking about doing a demo on how I make my puppets. I know there is interest in something like that because of comments I have gotten at various conventions I have done my "how to operate a puppet" very short course. Then there is the crazy idea I have for a couple of toy theaters but that is a subject for another day.

I am grateful for the possibilities that exist for the Henson Company.
