Eve of the Eve
Dec. 30th, 2005 09:34 amNot as much cleaning as I would like but probably more than I thought I was going to get done. I had a couple of errands that were must runs so those got done first. Ariel and Peter went to see "Cheaper by the Dozen 2" and enjoyed it more than they thought they were going to. Peter had found the advertisements very off putting. He said the film had a heck of a lot more heart than the commercials let on. I think today I might take Ariel to see "Memoirs of a Geisha" which is next on my list. I saw my first trailer for "Tristan and Isolde" on TV last night. I didn't even know this movie was being made and I try to keep up on all things Arthurian so that is now on my list.
It is the eve of New Years Eve. In two days this year will be done and 2006 will start. Which means it will take me until February to remember to write 06 rather than 05. The first few weeks are tricky and after that I adjust.
I did a lot of cool things in 2005.
I took my first Doll making course. The teacher was the incredible Wendy Froud. I have admired her dolls for years and own a couple of originals as well as the limited editions. I think I am only missing two of the limited edition dolls. In two days she imparted to us how she makes dolls. I have since used her tricks for both dolls and puppets. Next year I want to make 3 dolls based on her technique.
I took a puppet master class from John Tartaglia and Leo Daignault. I learned quite a bit and made a bunch of new friends from that course. When I went to the Muppet auditions it was nice to have a bunch of people that I knew to commiserate with when I was cut. I'm still glad I did the audition. Next year I want to perform in at least one puppet show.
I managed to finish a set of costumes before going to the convention. This is a great achievement in my books. Previously I have spend most of Friday and Saturday trying to get everything done for Saturday Night. So it was nice going down to the convention and not having to worry about getting things done. Next year my goal is to have the costume ready a week before the convention.
I showed in the DragonCon Art Show this year and hope to again next year. My stuff looked different from everyone else which made for more variety in the show. I know I made people giggle at the puppets. Next year I want to enter more Art shows with a few other ideas I have.
I joined some new groups on the web and made some great new friends. I was able to meet a couple of these people in person this year and I hope to meet more of them next year. I participated in my first doll swaps and challenges which forced me to become better at my craft and I received some cool dolls in return. Next year I want to finish the swap or Challenge on time.
I am grateful for all the things I got to do this year.
