RTBTCKI (The series that never ends)
Dec. 9th, 2005 09:45 amWhether the weather be cold
Little to no snow and lots of slushy rain which makes for the hot beverage of your choice and some good reading material kind of day. I hope that this lets up by this afternoon and doesn't hard freeze tonight or any movement outside the house is going to be difficult tomorrow. The weekend is supposes to be cold but clear and we may see some more snow next week. Considering the weather out my window right now, I think I would have rather have the six inches of snow rather than the 2 inches of slush.
Serenity
The movie Serenity is out next week at your local video store. It was a good film and you don't have to have seen Firefly to understand what is going on. The chance of a sequel to this film now depends on DVD sales just as getting this movie made came out of the DVD sales of the original TV show. I have a good friend in that film and I would like to see her again in this show up on the big screen.
Geisha
The movie Memoirs of a Geisha starts today in limited release and I am looking forward to seeing it. I thought the book was a fun read and the film looks sumptuous. I love kimonos. I have built them for dolls on occasion but never got up the nerve to make one for a human sized person. There is also the mystery of the life of a Geisha. I think like so many things Japanese that we won't get or understand how a woman could do something like that. There are also a lot of misconceptions about what a Geisha is in western culture. There was a very good National Geographic special that followed one woman who was an apprentice around in her daily life and routines. So that is on my must see list.
Aslan
Opening this weekend is The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe which I have want to see since they first published some of the early concept sketches. I loved those books as a child which my well worn box set will attest to. The more I have seen of the teaser trailer and other materials, the more I want to see this film. So this is on my "must see this weekend no really I must" list.
Caroline
She is still having a lot of fun with her toys she received for her birthday. She goes from toy to toy playing with each until she moves on to the next thing. I have drunk enough pretend tea to float a battleship. *grin* The ponies are having whispering conversations with each other. Three of them have been chosen to be her constant companions. I will try to get the pictures up today of the party and a few other things we have done but no promises. It will depend on what else we are doing this rainy day. I think a craft is a must this afternoon.
Prost Follow-Up
Jonathan made a good point that alcoholism is a disorder not a disease and that, after checking my dictionary, I can whole-heartedly agree with. I received both on and off list some very interesting comments from people. I guess I didn't put the whole thing in context in terms of what was going on in the episode. To clarify what set me off. The South Park episode was about one of the characters Dad's getting a DUI for drinking while driving. He is forced to go to an AA meeting which informs him he has a disease and is going to die. Since he doesn't believe in a higher power he assumes he can't get better and must drink more since he has a disease so he has to give into it since there is no cure and only a miracle can save him now. This gets more and more absurd and involves a bleeding statue and the Pope before the kid can get his dad to see that he (the dad) is a moderate drinker so he doesn't need to drink like a fish and he can enjoy a few beers without feeling guilty. So for me addiction is officially a disorder.
I am grateful for polite discourse.
