I don't remember when Saturday became Pancake Day. It is something that is lost in the fog of memory. I can remember getting up to the call of "Pancakes." Sometimes we were really lucky and we got waffles. I remember one birthday I had on a Saturday we celebrated by having waffles for breakfast. I once ate my age in pancakes (12) and that cured me from even thought of joining any eating contest. This past Christmas my mother gave all her children a cookbook containing copies of the recipes that we knew and loved as kids. One of the recipes is for the fly off the plate pancakes. I have started making pancakes most Saturday mornings. This morning Ariel woke up cranky and sore from having participated in Marching Band for her school. A couple of Advil and some pancakes and she is back to her cheerful self. Ah, the magic of the pancake.

Hurricane Rita has made landfall east of the original prediction. I firmly believe they did the right thing trying to evacuate the towns and cities that were in the path of the storm. I am saddened by the loss of life due to the evacuation. I think they were screwed if they did and screwed if they didn't evacuate. Consider all the reactions to the finding of bodies of the dead elderly in New Orleans Nursing Homes. There are calls for investigations into what went wrong and all the rest. A nursing home in Houston used a bus to evacuate their residents and the bus blew up due to a number of factors including the people using oxygen tanks on the bus. There are calls for investigations into what went wrong and all the rest. Plus there is rumbling about that maybe they shouldn't have evacuated and if they had stayed put then these people would be alive and safe. The administrators at the nursing homes where trying to do the best for their clients and workers in each case and yes there were bad calls in both cases but these people died by accident not because anyone was trying to kill them. So keep those folks in your thoughts as well as the families of those who have left to help others in this time of disaster.

Caroline has taken to brushing one of her two My Little Ponies. I think if I could find the second one, she would be brushing that one too. None of her dolls really have hair that can be brushed. She is learning a lot by brushing and re-brushing the pony's hair. She learned that brushing one way gets the tangles out and the other way puts the tangles in. She is even trying to style it a bit. I noticed that she is trying what she learned on the pony on her own hair. She got most of the tangles out of her hair this morning by herself. She just needed a little help with the back.

Caroline is already working on her puppet chops. She has seen me work on my lip sync with my hand and puppet eyeballs for a majority of her life. I also do it without the eyeballs just for practice when watching Sesame Street or some children's show. I noticed the other day when she was watching Dora the Explorer that when the Map came on, she was opening and closing her hand a.k.a. lipsyncing to Map's dialogue and she was pretty spot on. I'm so proud. (Wipes a tear from her eye *sniff*)

I finally put up some more recent pictures of the family. Recent Photos The first one was taken at Crescent City Con. I guess when they said it was the last CCC, they didn't know how right they were. The ones of Caroline were taken a week ago.

I hope to see Corpse Bride today. I'll see if I can make that happen. I also want to get another project done before Peter gets home tomorrow. Right now I am back to finished up typing in the revisions to Fall of Knight.

I am grateful for being able to watch my daughter exercising her puppetry skills.
