My brother Sean aka Doc Woopie aka Bar Man is the Master of the Partie. His parties are legendary among southeast fandom. He limits the number of people invited by handing out invitations that for some have become collectables. He and his wife Rozanna come up with the theme and then plan for years in advance sometimes before executing the idea.

This year was the Referee P.A.R.T.I.E. (Pan-American Referees to Imbibed Entertainment.) Their slogan is Play Nice, Nice Play. We had referee shirts that Sean made along with hats and some people had whistles as well. The invite was this really nice cloisonné pin that looked like a small shield with the logo that Sean created. He transformed a hotel room into a field with Astroturf on the floor with the lines drawn. His wife was dressed as a Jeer Leader (sort of a punk cheerleader with twice the attitude.) He got some of his buddies to be the party bouncers and rule enforcers. Yes there were rules to this party and you were called for infractions. Like arriving late would get you late penalty. The referee would blow his whistle cross his arms in front of him and then tap at his watch. Or illegal motion where the wrong hip-swing could get you a penalty. He had about 10 more and they were all funny.

Caroline bounced her way across the two beds they had put together and had a lot of fun. She could really get some speed going. After doing that a couple of times, she then crawled into Daddy's lap and conked out. Peter took her back to the hotel room about 11:45. Ariel and I stayed at the party since we had invited Jewel and Matt to the party along with some other people we know. They all showed up at the same time which was fine since we had a lull in the number of people in the room. They were there for about 45 minutes when Paul was reminded that he had agreed to judge a contest. Ariel and I went out with them because we were getting sleepy well at least I was getting sleepy. Once we finally managed to make it back to the lobby (Don't get me started on the elevator situation in the Atlanta Hyatt) it was decided that it was too late for Paul to go judge so they retired to the bar. Ariel and I sat with Jewel and her Entourage until 1 am at which point I called my own referee call of party over and took Ariel back to the room for some sleep.

Prior to the party we had done the banquet and had a very nice time with Marv Wolfman, Bob Ingersol, John Hudgens, Kevin J. Anderson, and Rebecca Moesta all of which came to the party. We were the raucous table. After I left to go judge the Star Wars Trivia contest, Peter became the master of jokes at the awards ceremony because the MC didn't show up.

Before that I had some good panels. Ariel got a great birthday gift from Jewel which Jewel showed her how to apply at Sean's party. Caroline tossed Ariel's bear in the fountain which was retrieved quickly by a man with a cane. Peter did panels and signed bunches of stuff. All in all it was a very good day at DragonCon.

I am grateful that my brother throws such rocking parties.
