There is too much to do at DragonCon and I find myself not able to do it all. So I am settling for the some that I can do rather on dwelling on what I can’t do. I couldn’t make a meet up of an on-line group I belong to yesterday evening and I apologize to the organizer that I couldn’t. I couldn’t make it to a couple of panels I wanted to see but I did run into the people on the panels that I wanted to talk to. I have run into people who would like to spend sometime with me but are probably going to have to do it on the fly because I feel like I can’t stop moving for very long.
We did get to Fat Matt’s Rib Shack for Ariel’s Birthday dinner part 2. Marv Wolfman, T.J. Burnside and her daughter Tory, Sean and his wife Rozanna joined us. There was much consumption of ribs and lively conversation. Ariel and I went to the Art Show reception and were able to walk the art show and look without a ton of people in there. I did a panel on YA lit as well as one on censorship with Josepha Sherman and Todd McCaffrey. We all agreed that parents should take the responsibility for what their kids read, see and hear and not rely on the state to tell them what is good for their kids.
Later that evening Ariel took over sleeping Caroline duty and Peter and I got a chance to go out and be adults. We went to the guest hospitality suite and chatted with a few people. We were there less than the time it took us to get there (20 minutes). We headed down to the Firefly shindig that had people wrapped around the block to get into. The bar line was amazing. Someone clocked it at 37 minutes to get a drink. We got in on the power of Peter's name and our guest passes. No one we knew was there so we bailed. Peter thought to check the bar on the way out and there was Jewel and her Entourage. After catching up on the days news, we joined the gang to go to the party we had just left. I added a couple of friends of mine to the group (Hi Mike) and off we went. We passed the line on our way in and our friend TJ and her daughter were there in line. TJ asked Peter if he could help and Peter pulled them into our group and went into the party with no problem. Once inside I started running into people I knew and was introduced to the rest of the group that came in with us including a couple of actors from Stargate Atlantis. We had a fun time but midnight came and I started to feel like a pumpkin. We got back to the room and I went to sleep while Peter wrote another chapter in the King Arthur book.
Today is choke-full of activities and panels. We are not going to try to go to the masquerade but watch it on the close circuit channel and hope that works. My brother Sean is having one of his parties with a really cool invite. So that is on our list. I am taking it easy with Caroline this morning. She has already broken her sister's sunglasses and dunked her sister's teddy bear in the fountain. So she is not in Ariel's best books. But she is two and these things happened. Best thing is she knows and expressed regret that she had done them which is a move forward on right and wrong.
I am grateful that I came to DragonCon this year.
