After bumping her noggin on the rail of the front porch steps because she made a misstep, Caroline went on to her most bruised day of her little life. She did enjoy Madagascar for the most part but trying to get her to sit still these days is like trying to herd cats. It can be done but it takes a long time to get the result you want. On the way home from the comic book store, she fell asleep in the car and had a nice long nap.

After dinner, which we ate outside at our picnic table, she wanted to go play in the yard. Peter and I were putting away the leftovers from dinner so Ariel took her out for a walk. Peter was cleaning his new grill (anniversary present) when we heard a howl that we knew was Caroline. Ariel comes back with Caroline crying. Caroline had tripped and taken a spill on the sideway. Two bruised knees and a new head bump were the result. She didn’t have any scrapes.

We went to our favorite video store and picked up some movies. Caroline decided she wanted to watch Bob the Builder and brought us the DVD. We rented that and a really fun movie called D.E.B.S. I set her up in the master bedroom with the Bob DVD. About an hour and half later, having checked on Caroline about every 20 minutes, we hear a loud crash followed by Caroline crying at the top of her lungs. We bolted up the stairs and found her on the floor having fallen off the bed. New bruise on the arm but that seemed to be all. She was put into the lap of nappiness and shortly fell asleep.

She is fine this morning. The only obvious mark of her adventures yesterday is the initial bump on the noggin. All the limbs work and she walked down the stairs like a big girl holding the railing.

The morning is going to be clear and the temperature is pleasant. There may be rain clouds later in the afternoon or evening but that was yesterdays weather pattern too. We managed to dodge around the rainstorms to do what we wanted to do. Ariel is marching in the Memorial Day Parade this morning. We are going to take Caroline and watch her and the other participants. Peter made his buttermilk fried chicken for dinner. I am going to make a pasta salad and make sure we have some other stuff for a picnic dinner while the weather is still nice in the evening. We have to time it before the mosquitoes come out who seem very vicious this year.

Madagascar was OK. I think it suffered from too much time in committee. There were a couple of stories and characters that really bogged the movie down at points. There were also some really clever dialogue and moments but sometimes it was a long slog getting to the pay off for some of the jokes. Voices were fine but I have to agree with the voice-over artist who said that we are losing one of the nice things about animation by putting Stars over content. It does tend to pull out of the character when you start thinking OK I know that voice, who is it? A couple of the characters that were not really that necessary to the plot were voiced by “famous” people so they were given more to do than they probably would have if the character had be voice by Debi Derryberry. Debi is a brilliant voice over artist and a really nice person. Caroline loves that Debi does Weenie the dog in Oswald. Debi did some Weenie bark voice and Caroline started looking around for the little dog. Debi is better known as the voice of Jimmy Neutron.

D.E.B.S was a surprise. I thought it might be fun and Ariel might enjoy it. We found a gem of a film with a director/writer who I really hope to hear more from in the future. It is well written and well directed with a very good cast. My only caution is that if you have a problem with homosexuals then this is not a movie for you. This started as a comic that became a short that became a full-length film and I am glad that it did. It was a fun comedy romp into the world of female spies. The DVD box labeled it as a cross between Clueless and Charlie’s Angels and that is not far off the mark. I think this is one that is going to grow by word of mouth and become a cult classic. Angela Robinson III is a director to watch. Her next movie is Herbie Fully Loaded which I was lukewarm on until I saw D.E.B.S so now I am going to see it the opening weekend

My goal for today is to catch up on my mail from the mailing lists I am on and get another puppet most of the way done.

I am grateful for those random finds on DVD that turn out to be gems.
