New York City was a nice trip. Ariel’s friend grew up on Long Island and had never taken the Subway so that was an adventure. We did have lunch at Monster Sushi. We then processed to the American Museum of Natural History which I haven’t been back to since I was really young. They have redone the dinosaur exhibits entirely and the planetarium didn’t exist back in the 60s. The gem exhibit hasn’t changed that much but the meteorite exhibit has been expanded and redone. The Neanderthals have been redone to reflect current knowledge. The creepy dioramas still exist. I understand why they were put in there in the first place. To allow people to see the animals in their “natural” habitat but the creepy factor has been magnified. I look at these snapshots that have been created and am glad that zoos have improved to try to show animals in their natural habitat. In some ways the AMNH is a piece of history in itself. You can go see how people in the early 20th century got an idea of what the world around them looked like in terms of its flora and fauna. I wonder how the future is going to look at our contemporary museums.

After that we walked into Central Park in its Spring peak. The flowers were blooming. The trees were new and green and the lawns looked great. I managed to navigate by using a couple of building to figure out about where we were in the park. I took them over to the lake which was dubbed by both as cool. We climbed the rocks and watched the people out on the lake in their rowboats.

We walked over and down to the zoo. We were at the Central Park Zoo Gift Shop. I was purchasing a soft bear for Caroline’s bear collection. Ariel was being a teenager and said, "Kath couldn't we use this in the house?" as she stroked a life size baby giraffe.

"No Ariel," I replied, "We already have a dragon in the basement. No, we have 3 dragons in the basement. I don't think we need a giraffe in the living room."

The cashier totaled up my purchase and said very nicely, "You know that out of context that sounds pretty weird?"

"I guess it does." I said with a grin and we left.

All told we walked from West 79th to East 59th street which is a lot of Central Park to walk. This morning my feet are still feeling a bit tender but it was worth it.

If you go into the Disney store on 5th Ave, go to the second floor to the steps leading up to the third floor and look towards the window to see something amazing. They have a piece of the mobile that use to hang in the staircase of the Brownstone that housed Henson Associates. All the PVC figures are still attached and it is cool to look at.

We went to Jekyll and Hyde for dinner. It was apparently bought back by the original owners and redone. They are copying the Adventures Club even closer than before including having a club salute and song. There is a story that is going on through the evening with various parts. We stayed through Frankenstein’s Monster and had to boogie to catch our train.
The ride home was fine and I came back to an improved Caroline. Peter said that she was acting much more herself all day. She wanted to eat in her chair again. This was good because since she became ill she wanted nothing to do with her feeding chair. She played with her toys and started running up and down the stairs again. I feel so much better. We all slept well last night.

I am grateful for New York City.
