This summer I am joining a bowling league. I have gotten my game consistently above 100 so I feel ready to try this American pastime. Peter is in the same league and he will be shooting in the Ducks League (local Atlantic league baseball team) with Ariel this summer. Caroline has started to roll the ball down the lanes with some help but I think it is going to be a few years before she starts to bowl in a league yet.

The NFL draft is upon us with all the speculation and trades that surround it. Teams who have better draft picks are using them to pick-up players from various teams who are known factors rather than a college kid who might or might not work out well in the NFL. One of the things I have noticed in what I have read and heard is that most teams are not looking for a quarterback or even a back-up quarterback. This year it seems that good receivers and running backs are drawing more attention in the draft. Also has anyone else notices that the teams that did the best last year have the worst schedules to play this next year? It is an interesting way to level the playing field.

The Mets are at .500 now. I think Willie Randolph is doing a good job in his new position. I have noticed that the Mets bats seem to be an all or nothing deal this year. They either clobber the other team or they lose the close one. Pitching is much better than last year. If they can get their fielding sorted out I think that this is going to be a pretty good season.

Baltimore is the AL team I follow. I can remember going to an Orioles game when I was very young. They were handing out pictures of the players. I had one of those in a box of my keepsakes for a long time. I don’t know what happened to it. 9 and 7 is not bad. They lost one to the BoSox who are 10 and 6. If they had won last night, they would be first in the AL east with Boston a game behind. They have done a good job of putting the team back together over the off season. I think they might be in there for the pennant in the fall.

The Braves are at 8 and 8 also. They and the Mets are behind Florida and Washington by a game. The NL east looks like a good race this year. Nobody seemed to give the Nationals (I keep wanting to call them the Senators) much of a chance to do anything this year but they have shown that they are not going to be an easy team to beat.

The Knicks have been sent home to think about what they did and didn’t do yet again. The Nets have, at the last minute, managed to make it into the playoffs much to many people’s amazement. They are playing Miami which makes me think that they will be home shortly thinking about what they did and didn’t do. Professional basketball has never really been a sport I can get into. For basketball, I like the college hoops. I find more passion in those games than the professional players.

I am grateful for the variety of sports out there to watch and enjoy.
