I find that I am at my most creative in the AM. I tend to problem solve better, get more cleaning in a shorter period of time, and write with flow rather than in fits and starts. I have gone from being a night owl to a morning person. Caroline is a morning person. She gets up with the sun and starts her day with a smile without coffee. Peter is a night owl. He works until 4 or 5 in the morning and then sleeps until noon. That way he can write uninterrupted. During the day he deals with other things than he needs to do. Ariel is a morning person because she has to get up for school. She might be a bit groggy when she wakes up at first but by the time she leaves the house she is awake.

There are some mornings that NPR sends my blood pressure up by bringing to my attention something that might have slipped by. Apparently some Catholic parents out in California have forgotten the old phrase “Judge not, that ye be not judged.” They are up in arms because there are children of a gay couple in the school. They are asking that the children be removed because the caregivers do not fit into church doctrine. From the AP dated 1/2/2005 I believe.

COSTA MESA, Calif. — Some parents and parishioners have accused the Roman Catholic diocese in Orange County of violating church doctrine by allowing a gay couple to enroll their children in a church school.

The group demanded that St. John the Baptist School in Costa Mesa accept only families that pledge to abide by Catholic teachings, the Los Angeles Times reported in Sunday's editions. Church doctrine opposes gay relationships and adoption by same-sex couples.

"The teachings of the church seem to have been abandoned," John R. Nixon told the Times. "We send our children to a Catholic school because we expect and demand that the teachings of our church will be adhered to."

School officials rejected the demand, and issued a new policy stating that a family's background "does not constitute an absolute obstacle to enrollment in the school."

The parents' demand would presumably prevent two adopted boys whose parents are both men from attending the school's kindergarten.

The Rev. Gerald M. Horan, superintendent of diocese schools, said that if Catholic beliefs were strictly adhered to, then children whose parents divorced, used birth control or married outside the church would also have to be banned.

"This is the quagmire that the parents' position represents," he said. "It's a slippery slope to go down."

The boys' parents, who enrolled their children at the beginning of the school year, declined to comment to the Times.

Some parents have promised to ask the Vatican to intervene and some have threatened to pull their children from the school. Others are worried the boys' attendance will set a precedent, saying their presence is part of a larger effort by the gay community to change the church.

"The boys are being used as pawns by these men to further their agenda," said Monica Sii, who has four children at the school.

I do like Rev. Horan who points out that if this is the policy well them there are a lot of kids who are going to be unable to go to Catholic School. I wonder how many of the offended parents would make the cut? Considering the number of Catholic Schools that are having problems with enrolment and most I know accept students from outside the faith, I hope this goes no where fast and these little boys can just be kindergarten students with in their class rather than examples. These people really need to get the plank out of their eye. I am cheering for the school officials for doing the right thing and not bowing to the vocal minority.

I am grateful for school officials to care more about the good of the children over parental stupidity.
