Peter and I had wanted to see The Lord of the Rings exhibit at the Boston Science Museum since we had heard about it. We had tried once last month when Peter came up and did a signing. I was going to go with Gwen, Ariel, and Caroline. Caroline had a cold with a fever a few days before we were to go and on the day of going she was still out of sorts. I stayed home with her and Gwen and Ariel went to see the exhibit.

Fast forward to the next month where my sister in law and her husband wanted to go. We arranged a day but missed a bit on the times. We got in under the wire since the exhibit closes tomorrow. We ended up having lunch with them after they saw the exhibit. Our tickets were for 4:45. We played it smart and brought Caroline’s backpack to hold her while we looked around.

When we arrived we went to the discovery zone which had an area for the 5 and under set. Caroline, having been strapped into a car seat for over 4 hours, was ready to run and play. We had one slight mishap. In the time it took to blink she got into a pond of water they had set up for the kids to float ducks and boats down. She was soaked from head to toe. I changed her diaper and she dried out by the time we left. We had lunch and discussed fannish stuff. We gave Caroline a little more running around time.

The time it took to get into the exhibit was minimal compared to what I had heard from others. Caroline was fascinated the minute we walked through the door and she saw the life sized Cave Troll. She looked around the exhibit and kept going oooo and ahhhh. The only problem was if I stood still for too long since she wanted to move and see more. We came around the corner and saw the Ringwraith costume.
I said, "Caroline, what is that?"
She said "Ringwraith."
I told Peter who said that there was no way she said that.
He said, "Caroline can you say Ringwraith?"
Caroline pointed and said as clear as a bell, “Ringwraith."
I guess we are raising her right.

I had a lot of fun looking up close at the costumes. We did this picture thing where they size people like Gandalf and Frodo in the horse cart. Overall it is a very good exhibit if you are a fan of film and special effects. If you like RoTR even better for you. I am glad we made the time to do this. Now we are going to visit with Gwen and have a relaxing evening watching the World Series in the safety of our hotel room as the streets team with Soxs fans.

I am grateful for Museums
