I never thought of myself as a cat person. If I asked my parents for a pet larger than a hamster, it was a dog. We never got a dog for many reasons but I did have a succession of turtles, gerbils, mice, and hamsters that I took care of. Now I have cats. 4 of them. We did have 5 but Treat Williams went off to live with his owner who went to college.

We have an outdoor cat named Pandora. She is an older gray cat with fluffy fur and an attitude about twice her size. Since she was injured last fall, she has spent more time indoors by her choice, We still let her out when she wants to wander, but she comes back in the evening because she wants to. Pandora had three kittens of which we still have one. Stalin is a black and white polydactial tuxedo cat. He thinks he is a alpha cat and the other cats let him think that. Then there are the two striped grays Millie and Vanillie. They were named that because when we first go them, they didn’t meow at all. So the girls figured they hired someone else to do it for them. The smaller of the two is Millie and he is my cat. Somehow he knows he is my cat as do the other cats. Not that the others leave me alone. Peter dubbed me “the cat magnet” early in our courtship. If I am taking a nap, the cats think they have a right to nap with me. They each have their spots they like to fall asleep on me. If I have a lap free, a cat takes up residence. They seems to take turns with it. So I now call myself an animal person since I still like dogs but find cars purrrrfectly acceptable as pets.
