I have found myself becoming a morning person over the years. When I was younger, I tended to work jobs that were at night and I could sleep in. Once I got the job at Del Rey I found myself going to bed about 10 since I had to be up by 6 at the absolute latest. Then I had Caroline and for the first couple of months I didn’t know what a full night of sleep was. Peter helped a lot in this allowing me the occasional full night sleep so I wouldn’t go totally mad. I was told that eventually she would sleep through the night. I had a hard time believing that. Then she started sleeping 6 hours in a row. It is amazing how much difference getting 6 straight hours of sleep is when you had been subsisting on 2 to 3 at a clip. She now sleeps, on the average, 10 to 11 hours straight. She goes to bed between 8 and 9 and gets up between 7 and 8. Which is fine by me. I can plan for that. I tend to go to bed right after Jon Stewart recaps the days news and fall asleep pretty fast. I get up between 6:30 and 7:00 to have a few minutes to myself for coffee and the morning paper before Caroline wakes up. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. Doesn’t matter to me. Caroline is such a happy morning person. It is fun to be with her when she first wakes up.

Since I have become a morning person, I have found that my creative brain works best in the morning. I have solved more puppetry problems while I have been waking up than any other time of day. I write this blog in the AM since I have found that when I try to write it in the evening the thoughts aren’t as clear. Evening is when I go over all the jobs that have been posted on various web sites to see if there is one for me to apply for. Also evening is more family than individual time (deadlines aside). Right now Peter, Ariel and I are reading “The Tempest” aloud in the evenings. We divide up the parts and read an act. We are deciding which play we might read next. I am leaning towards ‘Taming of the Shrew” There is also the TV shows we watch in the evening. Midday is for things like household chores that need to be done, food that needs to be bought, and studios that need to be cleaned. Midday is also when Caroline takes a nap of indeterminate length (1 to 3 hours).

There is not much change in the pattern on weekends. Caroline doesn’t know that people sleep in on weekends so she gets up at her usual time. We tend to go to movies on weekends because it is easier to find a baby-sitter than during the week especially during the school year. The only way I know what day it is, is because I read the newspaper and I look at the day and date on that. I do know it is May 1st so Happy May Day to anyone who celebrates it. I am off to flip all the calendars to the new month and see what pictures and photos we will be looking for a month.

So I go into my studio to find my copy of Henson;the Works and I end up flipping through some other books in my collection seeing if I still have the art of the muppets or if that is in my unsorted collection when I find "Labyrinth: The Photo Album" with just some really spiffy and CLEAR photos of the costumes I want to make and the Goblins I am thinking about creating. I knew it existed. I had forgotten I had a copy of it. I also found two books on puppetry I forgot I had. Maybe I should catalog my collection.
