I got about 3/4 of the desk clear and clean. I tackle the last corner this morning. Then I press onto other projects that need to be done.

Behind the cut are a couple of rants about the internet and its denizens.

I am grateful for the fact that there are still intelligent people on the internet

If someone starts a list or chat that is limited to say left-handed people and they state that they don't have anything against righties but this list is for lefties and you join the list where it is found out later that you are a righty and are banned you don't get to go elsewhere and sob and cry how mean the list owner is for booting you. You went onto their list under false pretences and didn't obey their rules. I'd say the "footprint" on your backside is about the right size.

If you are told before you join a list or chat that this list has a very limited scope as to what is being discussed and then you continually post off topic and not a little bit off topic but out into the ether after being warned privately then publicly that you are about to be yanked, don't go and whine how mean the list is to others. You were given a number of chances to improve your behavior and you didn't therefore you were given the boot.

If you act like an idiot on a list and are called on it. Calling the other party for something totally unrelated and dissolving into name-calling and the "you don't understand me" chant will get you a boot print. The list owner is just that, the owner of the list and they have total say in what happens on their list especially if they are paying for the bandwidth that you are making an ass of yourself on. Read the rules carefully and you would understand why you are no longer welcome.

I know there are a bunch of idiots out there who take pleasure in the anonymity of the internet. They love to stir up trouble and then sit back and laugh at how clever they are and how stupid the rest of the internet is compared to their vast intellect. They annoy the heck out of me but I still feel sorry that the only way they feel empowered at all is to pull down others. That makes them feel superior because they have no other way of feeling good about themselves other than making other people feel bad about themselves. It is a sad sick situation that I don't think is going to help them any especially in situation they may encounter in real life.

That is something I do have to remind myself from time to time. The internet as cool as it is and with all the stuff on it is not real life. Real life is listening to your daughter cough during the night and sound like a barking terrier. Real life is clean up the cat barf that you stepped in on your way to the kitchen to get a cup of coffee. Real life is take your kids down to the playground and running around like a nut not caring what other's think because you are having fun. Real life is cooking dinner for your family and getting a warm feeling because they express how much they like it. Real life is bills and catalogues and a million other pieces of paper that seems to stack up out of nowhere. Real life is getting together with your buddies and seeing a movie then going out to a diner and talking about it until the wee hours in the morning. Real life is schedules, appointments, and places you need to be. In real life I can clean my desk. On the internet all I can do is talk about cleaning my desk. Guess which one gives me greater satisfaction?

"You Americans with your...logic."

I deal with this all the time as a moderator. You get used to it.

Speaking of which, would you be interested in displaying some of your puppet work on the International Costumers Guild website? We actually have a gallery up and running, though it's not up for display quite yet. I wanted to have some content in there for the debut. :)

A most excellent rant! And you have my complete sympathies.

I experienced this sort of rage a couple of days ago when someone on my smashed penny e-mail list went ballistic over a remark that had nothing to do with politics and began flaming everyone on the list for being pinko-commies—including one guy who I happen to know is on active duty in Iraq. Some anti-American scumbag he is. But what I had to wonder was: this is related to smashed-penny collecting how? The moderator banned her for a week. And then she got all flamey in private e-mail because she'd been banned for not following guidelines. Methinks she'll be booted for good in very short order. Some people!
