Happy World Mental Health Day 2005

The situation in Asia in the aftermath of the Earthquake is dire. The body count is just going to go up and there are some areas that may never recover. I am just hoping that we don't get any tsunamis from this to add to the grief. I know we gave for both Hurricanes but if we just give a latte's worth of money, it will help them so much.
Today is, according to the UN calendar, World Mental Health day. It is a day to reflect upon the issues of mental health both locally and globally. My mental picture is everyone taking the day off from work or school. This year's theme is mental and physical health across the life span. They are trying to get people to connect their physical health with their mental health and see how one effects the other. There is a lot of interesting information at their web-site.
World Mental Health Day 2005
Personally I plan to do something today for myself to improve my mental health even if it is to take a moment and breath.
Review of Wallace and Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit
With the understanding that I think Nick Park is brilliant, I really had a great time at this movie. Considering how my head was feeling that is saying a lot. It is classic Wallace & Gromit with no apologies that it is British with British sensibilities. It is also a rip-snorting good yarn with classic clay animation. Sure you can see the finger markers on the clay but that is part of the charm. We are going to take Caroline to see it today. That's how good I think it is.
On another note my sympathies go out to Mr. Park and all of the people associated with Aardman Animation. Its "entire history" has been destroyed in a fire at a warehouse containing props and sets. No one was hurt but the lose to the company cannot even be put into dollars and cents. However Nick Park put it into perspective by stating "Even though it is a precious and nostalgic collection and valuable to the company, in light of other tragedies (the Asian Earthquake), today isn't a big deal."
Monday Morning Sports
So the Yankees have pulled it out to a final game tonight in Anaheim. The winner goes on to face the White Sox and the loser gets to whine about why they didn't get any further in the play-offs. In the NL we have the Astros vs. the Cardinals so my Braves were eliminated in a game that will be long talked about and analyzed. 18 innings of crackerjack baseball which held your attention through out.
So Vinny still has it and proved it on the field yesterday as the Jets won one. His passing game is still a thing of beauty. I just hope his shoulder holds out for the season. Giants have a pass this week. Colts are the only ones left with perfect record. Let's see what happens next week.
I watched Liverpool vs.Chelsea on ESPN yesterday afternoon. It was a good match with a bad ending for Liverpool fans. Now that I know when ESPN is showing English Football, I am hoping to catch a West Ham game now.
I am grateful for rain.
