It was worth it. Every costume, every drop of blood and sweat that went into these costumes paid off for us. My wonderful cast did a dynamite job of selling the sketch to the audience and my husband who directed it knows how to keep the audience entertained. Bottom line is that’s why I do these large projects, to entertain the audience. I get a thrill even when I am not onstage hearing the audience reaction to what we have done. We had great audience reactions.
The Sketch: Depp Charge
Jack Sparrow and Mr. Gibbs come out stage right into a spot. Gibbs tells Jack that he has found a crew as mad as him to take on this venture. At that point the audience hears the beginning of “In the Navy” by the Village People. Gibbs starts to clap along and the audience starts to laugh. Jack says, “Where is the bloody music coming from.”
From stage right comes Willy Wonka in all his new garbed glory. He strikes a pose and hands a Wonka Bar to Jack. He then processes to lip sync to the lead vocals of the song.
Where can you find pleasure
Search the world for treasure
Learn science technology
Enter J.M. Barrie with his Indian Headdress and Duck. The audience’s laughter picks up
Where can you begin to make your dreams all come true
On the land or on the sea
Enter Ed Wood with a pink sweater, black skirt, blond wig, black socks with men’s garters, a moustache and a director’s megaphone. More laughter and I can tell that most of the audience “gets” what we are doing,
Where can you learn to fly
Play in sports and skin dive
Study oceanography
Enter Edward Scissorhands and the audience that didn’t get it then got it
Sign of for the big band
Or sit in the grandstand
When your team and others meet
Barrie, Wood, and Scissorhands start to dance some great Village People like choreography.
In the navy
Yes, you can sail the seven seas
In the navy
Yes, you can put your mind at ease
In the navy
Come on now, people, make a stand
In the navy, in the navy
Can't you see we need a hand
In the navy
Come on, protect the motherland
In the navy
Come on and join your fellow man
In the navy
Come on people, and make a stand
In the navy, in the navy, in the navy (in the navy)
They want you, they want you
They want you as a new recruit
Gibbs hands Wonka a bucket and they start tossing candy into the audience while Jack marches forward to lead his crew who follow him
If you like adventure
Don't you wait to enter
The recruiting office fast
Don't you hesitate
There is no need to wait
They're signing up new seamen fast
Maybe you are too young
To join up today
Bout don't you worry 'bout a thing
For I'm sure there will be
Always a good navy
Protecting the land and sea
More great Village People choreography and then they march off to roars or laughter and applause.

I won for workmanship for all the costumes I did as a whole. The workmanship judge pointed out to the audience exactly how insane I am for creating such great costumes with such attention to detail. The group won 1st place in the Champions Cup (which is our division) and Best Presentation. I am very proud of everyone of them.
I am grateful to Peter for directing the sketch and Ariel, Danicah, Robbie, Katie, and Marina for being in the sketch and doing such a great job. It meant a lot to me guys.
