I am putting this entry behind a cut because it might be a bit gross for some. Caroline is sick with some sort of gastrointestinal problem. This entry is about that problem.
On Saturday late in the afternoon Caroline started to run a fever. She was 103.5 after her nap. We called the doctor’s office immediately to inform them and put her in a tepid bath. I gave her some Tylenol too. After about 5 minutes in the bath she perked up and played in the tub for almost an hour. The fever dropped to under 100. She sweated a lot and by the time she fell asleep for the night, she seemed to be on the mend.
Sunday she woke up and was her usual Caroline morning self. Peter changed a pretty solid poopy so we though she was better. There was no sign of fever and Caroline went outside to play soccer with her father for a while. Peter and I went to see Kung Fu Hustle figuring she was back to normal. We came back to the babysitter’s report that Caroline had been her usual cute self and they had fun playing with her toys. She settled down for nap in her father’s lap. I put her up stairs in her crib and Peter went to bowl a few games.
She woke up from her nap with a very soggy diaper. I changed her and she started to gather up her various balls from all over the house. I saw her go into a semi-squat and heard a liquid sound. I figured that she pooped so I looked in her diaper. She had done so in spades. I put her up on the table to change it when the rush of poop came out of the diaper. I picked her up out of the poop, took her to the bathroom, and cleaned her up. I put her into a bath and finished the process. Fortunately at that point Peter came back from bowling. He watched her and I cleaned up her changing table.
We brought her downstairs and she vegged on the couch. Then the vomiting started. At currently count Caroline has gone through 5 outfits. Peter has gone through 3 shirts and I went through 2. The couch and the cats got a little bit into the line of fire. We spent the evening with Caroline in one of our laps with a bucket in reach. About 11 I went to bed and Peter took on Caroline duty. She would drink water and about half an hour later she would throw up the contents of her stomach. I didn’t sleep well at all and at 6:30 I got up and traded with Peter. He went upstairs for some sleep and I am sitting with Caroline and a bucket in arms reach. So far this morning she has drunk 4 oz. of water and it has stayed down for over an hour. I am hoping that we are past the crisis point. We have a call into the doctor and hope to hear back from them soon.
I am grateful for any sleep that any of us got last night and this morning.
