Happy Birthday to Me 2020 Edition

Today is the beginning my fifty-seventh year on the planet.
It is also Caroline’s first day of her Senior year of High School and the first night of our bowling league the COVID-19 edition.
So busy day all around.
I have been writing a letter to myself every year for over thirty years. Ten years ago, I started posting what I felt comfortable posting from the letter here.
Dear Kathleen,
Well not the year you expected to live but it is the year that you lived.
I think I went back in time and told you all that had happened since your last birthday, you would have laughed at me for creating such a dystopian world.
It has been a year of learning about yourself and the world around you.
It has been a stressful year even before the pandemic.
And there is no end in sight which is very scary.
You did manage to get your creative beast moving again. You created a new puppet form that is getting a lot of positive reviews. You wrote. You were published.
You kept exercise up even with everything shut down. Your walks with Caroline have become very important to you.
You have found ways to keep your head above water. It wasn’t easy but you did it.
And you should be proud of all you did do during the shutdown.
Now we step back and figure out what it next or what will be next.
There have been no conventions since February and no sign that we are going to be going back to them when they do start up.
But we survive and do what we can as we have always done.
Within the next year I want you to use your website to promote and sell your work.
I want to challenge you to create a couple of dolls and stuffed animals within the next year.
Keep exercising! It is working.
And remember to take some time for yourself. Even you need a break now and again.
Love
Kath
