Today we lucked into three tickets to go see the Fandango advanced screening of “How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World” or HTTYD III.

When the first film came out in 2010 Caroline was 7 going on 8. The perfect age for that film and the target audience. She fell in love with the characters and the dragons. She saw that film in probably all the film formats there were including IMAX 3-D on a real IMAX screen. Peter said the flying scenes made you feel like you were on the Dragon too.

I made her an Astrid costume which she wore proudly at various conventions and the How to Train Your Dragon the Arena Show. She even took on a Dragon at DragonCon. I am still very proud at how her outfit came out. I am especially proud of the axe and shield which were made from cardboard and paper mache and convention weapons compliant before there were rules to comply to.

Peter read the books to her until she was old enough to read the books on her own. She blew through the series and could tell you just about everything about each dragon. Some kids are Dinosaur obsessed, mine was Dragon obsessed.

In 2012 they released the TV show, Dragons Riders of Berk, which we all watched and enjoyed. Caroline picked up on hints there for things that would happen in the 2nd film.

In 2014 they released “How to Train Your Dragon 2” and Caroline was again enchanted by the whole universe. I remade her Astrid costume to reflect the new one that was in the film which she wore at conventions and the Ren Faire.

On Netflix the next series was entitled Dragons: Race to the edge which started in 2015.

Now it is eight years later and Caroline is going to go see a film that she has been waiting to see for a couple of years now as they kept pushing back the release date.

This is the final chapter in the film saga. Probably the end of the TV series as well. There will be more books but they are way below Caroline’s read level.

So this is the end of an era for her. Concluding a piece of her childhood.

I am interested in how they are going to wrap this up.

I am grateful to the entire team of How to Train Your Dragon for creating a world that has given my daughter so much joy and especially Cressida Cowell for creating the whole thing.
