Which I am putting behind a cut because this one is going to be very photo heavy.
Caroline and I were out running errands and talking about her upcoming 14th birthday party. We went through a variety of ideas when one of us came up the convention idea. We joked our way through how we would do it and then realized that we had something there.
I wanted to call it Caroline Con 14 but Caroline balked at the name so we settled on C-Con 2016.
It went well and I think the kids had a lot of fun.
So we started with the Invitation which I made as a flyer for the conventions. Caroline wanted to use her cat as the convention mascot.

This is the version that is altered a bit for privacy.
(For the VI: This is a fly that had a picture of a black and white cat in the left hand corner which is Fig. On the right of the photo it reads “C-Con 2016* December 4th 1 to 5 pm (which was corrected to 1 to 4 pm)” Under that it says “Dealers Room/Artshow/Gaming ********* Costumes are encouraged but not required. There will be cake. *AKA Caroline’s Birthday Party)
We made a program for the convention.

(For the VI: Front of the program which is a picture of Fig with the words C-Con December 4th 2016)
The back of the Program with the schedule

(For the VI: This was the schedule for the afternoon. It reads C-Con 2016 Schedule 1:00 Check-in 1:00-4:00 Con Suite 1:00-4:00 Gaming 1:00-3:30 Art Show 3:30-4:00 Dealers Table 3:30 Closing Ceremonies and Cake)
And we had a map of the convention

(for the VI: This is a map from left to right it says Rest Room, Con Suite, Art Show, Dealers table, video station, gaming)
The Badge that was given to each attendee

(for the VI This is the picture of Fig in color. At the top is the C-Con logo)
The Dealers Table was my idea of how to give each attendee something that they wanted to take home rather than just random stuff in the goody bag. It worked pretty well. Caroline and I went through the stuff we have gotten at conventions and put it out for ‘sale’. Peter and Caroline supplemented with some stuff from the comic book shop.

(for the VI: this is a white table covered with various things that you find at conventions)
The Art Show was created because most of Caroline’s friends are also in her art class so they are always sketching and drawing in their spare time. We pulled out Caroline’s convention art supplies along with backboards and paper for the attendees to create art work and it did work and kept a number of them occupied for most of the party.
The Set up

(for the VI: This is a black table with a sign that reads Art Show 1 to 3:30 at the back next to a fairy painting Caroline did. In front are boxes of pencils and pens on top of paper for drawing)
The almost final product (A few things went home with people)

(for the VI: This is a wall that the children put their drawing on.)
The Gaming Area with Games

(for the VI: These are our couches with a coffee table in the middle to the right is a chair with an assortment of games on it including three versions of clue)
Some of the kids did wear their own costumes that they made and others borrowed cloaks and the like from our stock.

(for the VI; On the left is one of Caroline’s friends dressed up as an anime character and on the right is a friend dressed as an anthropomorphic cat/rabbit)
Art being made

Cake was eaten

And I think everyone had a good time. It was enough structure with enough freedom for this group of teens.
I am grateful that we could pull this off.
