This is the first weekend of this school year. Caroline has been in school for four days or two A days and two B days. That gives her a taste of what the year will be like. She has her early impressions of what she likes and doesn’t like this year. I have been trying to convince her to give it a month before she forms her opinions.

Peter and I are trying to get back into our fall routine. There are still some bits and pieces of the convention season in the corners of the living room that need to be dealt with.

I am going to be working through some projects that I have back burnered. I am going to have an outfit for NYCC based on a character Peter created. I have to figure out how I am going to make some parts but it should be pretty easy if I can find the right fabric.

I did have a very nice birthday.

Caroline and Peter baked me a cake and Peter made the buttercream frosting that I so love. The cake is wonderful.

I assembled my Lego Dr. Strange Sanctum Sanctorum and found it was missing a piece. I do love that Lego has on its website an easy way to report the missing piece and get a replacement. The tentacle creature to the right has mechanics behind the wall that moves the tentacles. The Ancient one and Mordo are on levers that allow you to make them float. Overall it was one of the most complicated sets I have seen from Lego and the “magic” tricks are very clever.

(For the VI: This is my assembled Lego set. Dr. Strange figure is all the way to the left. The Ancient One is on the left side of the table in the middle. Mordo is on the right side of the table. All the way to the right is a red tentacle monster pushing through a portal.)

We spend the evening watching Star Trek and reading comic books. Caroline had a bit of a backlog since she was out of town for almost a month. My inner fangirl was very happy.

I have talked about our two cats Fig and Inky who were both found in our front yard as kittens. Fig is now six and Inky is two. Here’s a photo to get an idea of their sizes. Inky would have been bigger but her growth was stunted by her lack of food before we started feeding her.

(For the VI: This is a photo of our two cats. Inky is at the top of the photo and she is mostly white with black spots. Fig is at the bottom and she is mostly black with a white underbelly)

Today is limited for several reasons including that my knee, which had been on the mend, seems to have flared up again but it is as much in my knee but my shin and ankle. Hip hurts too so I am babying it. It was a lousy night’s sleep for me over all since I could not find a comfortable position so I dosed until about 3 AM then got up until 5. I read to tire out my eyes. It was not much better but I did managed to put together two hours before I gave up again. I feel bone weary and brain foggy. Peter and Caroline are picking up my slack, which I am very grateful for.

So I will do what I can do. I will muddle forward. I will survive.

I am grateful for such wonderful presents and birthday wishes. It made me feel loved and appreciated.

Take care of yourself. Go back to the doctor if that's not clearing up soon.

I'm glad you had a good birthday. That is an awesome Lego set.
