Where in Caroline spends time with Steven Universe.

There is a show on Cartoon Network that Caroline adores entitles Steven Universe. It is about a boy who is being raised by his father and some alien sentient gems. His mother was a gem so Steven is half human and half gem. It is a show with a very good heart and excellent world building and story telling.

She found out that Rebecca Sugar who created the show was going to be at SDCC. Her one wish for the convention was a chance to say thank you to Rebecca.

She did that and even more.

Saturday morning there was a concert of music from the show being performed by the composers, the cast, and crew. We lucked into being able to get into the show and more lucky that the McCloud clan was there as well since Caroline and Winter McCloud had become convention buddies the day before. She went with Winter and Sky to the Starbucks since we had an hour before the concert.

While she was gone, I discovered that we had a couple of the story board artists and writers from the show seated behind us so I went and got Caroline some sketches from them.

The concert was incredible. Between songs they explained how they would insert the music into the show and the whole give and take among everyone to make it work. We also got tales of how songs came to be.

Caroline sings along. She is the fourth one down the row.

During the Q&A Rebecca told the room that Steven was based on her brother Steven and he was in the room. He stood up and got a round of applause. Afterwards we just happen to go through the right door and Caroline got his autograph and a picture.

That afternoon there was a Cartoon Network signing for the cast and crew of Steven Universe. Through some very nice people who went above and beyond to make sure that Caroline got to meet Rebecca and the cast during the signing. She got to talk to Rebecca and express how much the show had meant to her and her friends. She then got to talk to the cast and tell them why she loved the show so much. She got a fist bump, a high five and a finger bump from the actresses that voice the gems. She told the composers how much she loved the songs and the music of the show.

Caroline and her signed Steven Universe poster. I swear she floated the rest of the day.

That evening we went to the Eisner Awards banquet and talked to a lot of people in the industry. The Master of Ceremonies was John Barrowman who did this was flair and costumes.

Caroline was starting to fade about halfway through so I took her upstairs where she quickly fell asleep with a smile still on her face.

Today has a few activities for all of us. I am hoping against hope that the dominos fall into place but am really expecting that nothing will come of it. Either way I am OK with it because I know that I tried and other people had my back and tried as well.

It feels like Sunday but I know it is Saturday. Shortly we will be going to the convention and setting up for our 3rd full day of adventures and anecdotes.

I am grateful that Caroline got to meet one of her heroes.
