Happy Birthday to my Mom 2016 Edition

Today is my mother’s birthday.
My mother is an amazing woman who is an example of the possibilities that both America and the educational system can work and upward mobility is possible if you work really hard.
She worked hard to get where she is today. Nothing was just handed to her. She is a very smart person who used her abilities to improve her life.
She raised four children who turned out to be productive members of society.
She is a Master Gardener who learned at an early age how to garden and took that knowledge to create a backyard that was on a House and Garden tour last year.
She is an amazing cook. I think I am most pleased with my cooking when I can get a dish that she made to taste like she made it. She taught me how to make all kinds of dishes. I have the cookbook she created for her children so we can make the things we loved as children.
Her baking talents are legendary. Her Christmas cookies are much loved by the people who partake in them. Her bread is amazing as are her cinnamon buns which are Caroline’s favorite.
She taught me how to be a parent by being a good parent to me and my brothers and sister. She has always been there for us when we have needed her.
She taught me to sew and we all know what rabbit hole that went for me. She made me clothing when I was much younger. I had these great jumpers that I picked the cloth on occasion for that were perfect for summer wear. She made curtains that still hang in the house among other things.
She taught me by example that being nice to people is the right thing to do. That treating people the way you wanted to be treated is a good thing. And that means everyone you encounter. No one is beneath your attention and good manners.
I am trying to pass all that she taught me onto my daughter. I think I am succeeding. Her lessons are ingrained in me and I appreciate all the time she took to make sure I was ready to deal with the world.
Happy Birthday Mom!
I love you.
Hope the day brings you lots of lovely things.
Your eldest daughter,
Kath
