Apparently this storm was gunning for the eastern part of Long Island and we were on the heavy snow side of the break from a little snow to a lot of snow.

Estimates out here are about 20 inches but it is very hard to measure because of the wind. Right now my car is pretty much clear but has 2 to 3 foot drifts around it depending on the side of the car. The steps aren’t steps right now and I can’t get out my basement door due to the snowdrift up against it.

The wind chill is putting us down in the single digits and it is continuing to snow.

Personally I plan to not do anything until the snow is over since the wind seems to just be blowing the snow right back into any cleared area. They plow the street but about 15 minutes later, most of the snow is right back on the street. The side streets are not plowed at all.

Suffolk country is still under a travel ban and so far, except for plows, I haven’t seen anyone idiotic enough to drive through although I am expecting that will not hold much longer.

And it is the kind of snow that you can’t build a snowman in. That loose powdery non-packing snow which get everywhere.

I think we will be digging out for the next day or so. I am honestly expecting that the earliest that Caroline will be back in school will be Thursday and there is a possibility that it won’t be until next Monday.

Right now we have power and Internet and we know full well that can change in pretty much an instant.

I am grateful that I can post this entry.

As I learned out in Casper, "That loose powdery non-packing snow" is easier to deal with than the wet, heavy stuff, at least when the wind isn't blowing it around too much.

We got lucky, on the other side of the light/heavy snow line. Just expecting another couple of inches today, instead of another foot. And the wind seems to have died down. Hard to tell how much is on my car, since the wind blew almost everything off the top onto the hood; the hood is about level with the top. Joy.
