When I was little I wanted to be an astronaut. I knew that was not something I could do since I have vertigo at just about any height above the ground. I saw a special on what people had to do to get to be astronauts and knew that I didn’t have the chops to do it. That wasn’t a dream that died but reality showing me what was possible for me to do.

When I was in college I dreamed of going to the Yale School of Drama for graduate school. I spent a year after college in an intern program at the local theater while stage-managing for some other local theaters. I put my resume and references together. I interviewed and got it on my first try. I accomplished my dream. I also accomplished another dream by earning a “living” in theater for a number of years. Lean years but a lot of great stories and some really fun work.

I dreamed of meeting some of the people that inspired me just to say ‘Thank you’. I have met a lot of those people over the years through conventions, work and friends. Some of these people have become my friends and colleagues. I dreamed of working professionally in the science fiction and fantasy field. I now have a number of credits to my name in that venue. (On a side note: Negima #3 is out. We did #4 and that is the last issue we worked on). I saw Star Wars and dreamed of working in that universe which I accomplished while I was working at Del Rey. I went from Fan to Professional which also was a dream of mine.

I still have dreams and hopes and aspirations. I am not just going to sit on my laurels and bemoan what I could have done. I have never done that and I don’t think I am going to start now.

I have dreamed of writing a novel. I am going to give that a try this next month in the NaNoWriMo. I am thinking of setting up a Live Journal for the book so others can read it and give me some feed back.

I dream of making a living off my puppets and dolls. This is something I need to work out the practical a little more as well as exactly what I am going to sell. My work tends towards the fantastical (gee wonder why) than the mainstream consumer. To that end I also signed up for Art by the Inch (http://www.artbytheinch.com/) which is running the same time as NaNoWriMo. I figure I should really push myself to see if I can handle the pressure of this and raising my child.

So I have a few things to motivate me to put up or shut up.

I am grateful for opportunities.
