Ariel and I went to see Memoirs of a Geisha. It was a well-done movie. The script covered the material of the books distilling it down to a movie length movie. The acting was very impressive and of course I was head over heels about the costumes. Sumptuous kimonos and silks. Business suits of the time. It was a visual feast. Ken Watanabi and Michelle Yeoh continue to make me want to see everything they have done. Li Gong who played Hastumomo is another one to watch. I had enjoyed Ziyi Zhang in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and was glad to see her in this too. I wouldn't not say that this one needs to be on the big screen to be appreciated unless you love looking at Kimono details.

We finished watching the Eccleston season of Dr. Who. Wow! I mean WOW! I haven't been this impressed with a TV show much less Dr. Who in quite a while. Once we got to the end I wanted to go back and see all the pieces of the puzzle again to put it together myself. And Captain Jack gets his own TV series out of it. I'll be there for that one too. I haven't seen "Christmas Invasion" yet but hope to soon. As soon as this comes out on DVD (February I am told) it is so bought.

Today I clean and put things away so that either later today or tomorrow I start on the next set of costumes. I am going to be competing with myself this time since one costume consists of me and Caroline and the other of Ariel and her buddies.

I am grateful that the BBC did it right.

Happy New Year!

Yeah, I was totally impressed by the new Who, as well. Being the impatient type (and because I got a region-free dvd player for Christmas this year), I ordered my box set from amazon.co.uk. :)

btw - email me off-LJ (paleologaATaolDOTcom). Have something to send you!

Welcome to the family. ::grin:: Yeah, I was never a fan of Doctor Who until this incarnation. I was heartbroken when I heard that Eccleston was leaving, but after seeing TCI, I'm on board for David Tennant. i just hate having to wait until June for the Canadian airing of series 2 (which I get here in Seattle on cable).

And series 1is out on DVD in the US February 14. Stop by Outpost Gallifrey (http://www.gallifreyone.com) for the latest, or subscribe to [livejournal.com profile] og_news to get the news via your flist. Enjoy!
