Happy Birthday Shana 2020 Edition

Today is my eldest stepdaughter Shana’s birthday.
I first met her when I met Peter back in 1989/90. She was with him at the Atlanta Fantasy Faire when he bought Phreqd the Klingon. I taught Peter and her the fundamentals of operating a hand and rod puppet. Shana was a quick study and we were having the puppets have a conversation in short order. I was impressed.
In 1998 I moved from Georgia to New York to be with my then boyfriend now husband and became part of the lives of my three stepdaughters.
I have always admired Shana’s gumption and willingness to take a leaps of faith.
She has a voice of an angel and is very musically inclined. I love hearing her sing.
When I moved in, she was finishing up high school and looking at colleges. We sorted out our relationship between each other pretty quickly. We set our limits and respected them which I think has helped our relationship over the years.
She and her husband Tim have a successful movie theater in Jacksonville, Sun Ray Cinema, and recently opened a pizza parlor with one of the coolest interiors I have ever seen. Right now, I know there is a lot of uncertainty since they had to close down the theater. They are small business owners who run a business that doesn’t have a reopening date. I am praying for them and their employees.
Shana is a great people person. I like watching her interact with her customers at the theater. She was Peter’s advocate when he was in Jacksonville rehabbing from his stroke. She made sure that we knew what was going on and got answers to my questions swiftly.
She has a big heart and is there for her family when they needed her.
We love her a lot.
