And it has taken out one more person I know. Clay or C. Martin Croker if you are looking him up on IMDB passed away yesterday. We don’t know all the details and his family has asked for some time to collect themselves. I met him at some convention down in Atlanta were a mutual friend introduced us to each other. He knew I was a puppeteer and I knew he was an animator and voice actor who had been instrumental in the creation of Adult Swim. We were, at best, convention buddies who might chat for a few between fans or wave at each other in passing. Now there is going to be a serious Clay sized hole in a number of conventions. He was great with the fans and a really nice guy to me. He will be missed by many. My sympathies to his family and friends.
Edward Albee passed away as well. I had friends who had worked with him or took classes from him. The first words that always seem to come up about him were that he was a character. I liked how he looked at the American experience and gave us a fun house mirror to look at ourselves. He was instrumental in other playwrights getting a chance to get their work out there to be seen.
This is a year that I am noticing more the Icons we are losing as well as the closer friends and family and extended family. I am trying to figure out if just more people that were in my sphere are dying this year or I am just noticing it more. 2016 has not been good in that department either way.
There was an explosion in Manhattan last night near a diner that I have had lunch at with friends off and on for almost 20 years now. I also have some friends who live in the general area. Everyone has checked it and is fine. No one I know was near where the incident occurred. The second device that didn’t go off happened to be near a friend’s apartment but they are out of the country right now and the neighbors kept them up to speed as to what was going on. Of course the minute this happened, speculation of why and who started. We really don’t know anything about the whys and might never know. Someone suggested it might be a construction dispute considering where the devices were. I would be fine with that. Not with the explosion but with that reason because then the word terrorist isn’t being used constantly.
Yesterday we had a flat tire after running some errands. Apparently the valve cap broke off leaving the valve open and thus we had one very flat tire. I figured it out pretty quick and pulled into another part of the parking lot which the mechanic praised me for being so sensible since all he had to do was re-inflate the tire, check it, check the valve and send us on our way. I haven’t checked it this morning but I am almost scared to. Thank goodness for AAA, which had proved its worth again.
Today Caroline and I are going to sort something out that we have needed to do so for a while. This is both physically and mentally. I have a feeling that a list is going to play a part here along with a calendar so I can see where I really am in the year and what I have left going on.
Weather is iffy. The forecast is for rain off and on for the next couple of days. I guess I will dodge the raindrops.
Off to really get the day started.
I am grateful for Caroline’s independent spirit.
