There is a hullaballoo going on in certain circles about a Marvel CEO donating money to Trump. If you go look at the situation, he donated money for veterans through Trump who was doing a fundraiser for vets rather than participate in the FOX Republican free-for-all. If you are looking for fair and balanced, it wasn’t there. I think Stephen Colbert has done the best job with his Donald vs. Donald where his staff went through a lot of video to present a very tight and funny look at the contradictions that are Trump.

Frankly it is really none of our business what Purlmutter did with his money. This was not Marvel donating, this was a private citizen donating and nowhere has he given his personal endorsement to anyone.

And that is something that has bothered me about the Internet since I first got on it. This sense of entitlement that people have the right to know what is going on in the private lives of other people.

Not that it was much better before the Internet. The various new rags that told the scandals in Hollywood have been around since the creation of Hollywood. You can go to the National archives and read your way through various magazines that talk about the lives of stars and slightly famous people. The Internet is just making it faster. And the subjects of people’s interest are making it easier by tweeting or Instagramming or whatever social platforms they play on.

I have no right to know what someone’s sexual preference is nor what they like to do unless it is my partner. I frankly don’t care. But there is an obsession about what goes on in our bedrooms and boudoirs that goes to the point of mania. And the internet feeds on that speculating who is dating who. Who is going to break up with who. We don’t celebrate the relationships that go on for 20 or more years that end with one partner passing away. That’s not news worthy apparently. Raising kids is not exciting especially if you are not using them as window dressing.

I do know things about people that I will take to my grave. There are occasions that I could end an argument on the Internet with facts but since it was spoken to me in confidence, I keep my peace and let the Internet rage on. It is not my story to tell so I don’t. And that can get frustrating at times when I see friends being savaged on the Internet though they have done nothing to warrant it other than to be a slightly public figure.

Public people are allowed private lives.

There are those who live their lives in public but that was their choice. There are many that haven’t but find themselves in the spotlight because people are interested/obsessed with them.

We haven’t exactly lived in the shadows. Peter’s column and website talk about our lives. I am use to people remembering things that the read about us. Caroline is sort of resigned to the fact that she has lived parts of her life as a sentence or two in the front of various comic books. But we are comfortable with what we share and know that it is out there.
