Working towards a Goal
Apr. 9th, 2014 10:27 amCaroline has been rehearsing for district show choir and tonight is the performance that she has been working so hard towards.
She has also been cast in the school production of “Bye Bye Birdie” and that starts rehearsal soon.
She has her NYSMA solo in flute later this month. She has been working hard in getting the nuances of the piece she has to perform and she is getting there.
She also has been continuing her Kung fu studies in between this.
This on top of her school work and state tests along with the usual measures of education.
She is working knowing that next year she is in middle school and then in 3 years she will be off to High School and then college and then grad school.
That’s a long time away but she has her goals that she wants to achieve along the way.
I have managed to achieve quite a few goals I had when I was her age. I knew by that point I would never be an astronaut since I had a fear of heights so I set other goals for myself.
A number of them changed over the years but some stayed with me.
And honestly some of the goals I had then were those of a child dreaming big. Reality did set it.
I will give my parents lots of credit for never crushing a dream of mine. They might point out the illogic of it and give me a reality check but they never said No you can’t.
And I carry that onto my daughter. She has had some rather big dreams and she very well may achieve some of them. I have never told her no. I have pointed out the same times my parents pointed out to me about reality and life.
It is good to have goals and aspirations. I believe that tempering those with reality is healthy and gives perspective. There are no real ‘no’s but there is what can be and what is.
I am grateful that my daughter has achieved some of her goals in life already.
