There are some businesses that take this day off as well. I figure probably as a travel day from all the Easter family festivities from yesterday.

Saturday was a fun day in the city. I got to show Caroline and Ariel the New York Public Library. We went to the children’s wing and saw the original Pooh animals. Caroline knows the story that way back when Peter was working for Dutton that he got permission to take the stuffed critters out of their box and play with them for a bit. She wanted to see what Daddy played with. The children’s section is small and big at the same time. It is put together for children to enjoy reading and such. Not as comfortable for the adults.

I took them up to the reading room which Caroline described as a “temple to books” and she is not far off. There is still a certain reverence for the printed word there. They even save a couple of tables that are for books (no laptops allowed). But they have accommodated modern technology with free wifi and power plugs now in the old oak tables so you can spend the day on the Internet at the library. I am of two minds about that. Honestly I want to spend a day just reading through the puppetry books they have there. Might have to do that one day.

We sat out in Bryant Park and just enjoyed the day while Peter ran over to Midtown Comics and got his copy of “the Art of John Carter” which is a really splendid book about the making of the art for the film. I am really hoping I am going to see some costumes at DragonCon based on these characters. Speaking of DragonCon, we will be there this year. Sorting out the paperwork right now.

Sunday started early with Caroline and I going to the early mass at the local church (sort of the Sunrise mass but after sunrise, barely). Since we were all up so early, we decided to go to our favorite Sunday breakfast place and have a good meal. We then came home and I set up the egg hunt for Caroline and Ariel. We got that done all before 10 AM. So in the afternoon we went a couple of towns over to see John Carter since Ariel hadn’t seen it. Caroline really likes this movie. She took Woola with her to see the film. I came home and started dinner which was well received by all. We then played two versions of family game night. At one point Ariel was on the X-box blasting her way to freedom. Caroline was taking care of her littlest pet shop critters on her DS. I was playing Bejeweled and Peter was writing another Fable short story. We then played Disney Scene-It as a family.

All in all a nice family weekend.

I am grateful for family time that everyone participates in willingly.
