Farpoint 2012 Heading Home
Feb. 20th, 2012 08:41 amFarpoint was a lot of fun. It would have been more fun if I hadn’t had a case of serious con crud at the convention itself. I probably picked it up somewhere at Disney or on the plane ride back. Either way the landing of the plane was very painful to my sinuses and they are still recovering. I can finally hear out of both ears so it is getting better.
Friday we got everything packed up and went back to the Magic Kingdom for one more go around. We mostly stuck to Fantasyland riding things like Peter Pan and Winnie the Pooh. I got on the bus to the airport and arrived in a timely fashion as the security lines were rather long with lots of children which always adds to the time. I still got through and to my gate in plenty of time. It was a smooth and quiet ride.
What was not as much fun was landing at another airport than the one I thought I was landing at. I ended up at Reagan and had to rent a car to drive up to Timonium. So I got there in time to see Peter perform “red shirt riot” at the Karaoke. Caroline gave me serious tackle hugs when she saw me. I talked to various people I know but packed it in early because of the sinus headache of Dooooooooom.
Which didn’t improve that much the next day unfortunately. Saturday is a bit of a blur. I did two panels and helped Caroline with her Masquerade costume. I talked to people but I felt out of it and this was with a decongestant in my system. I went to 10 forward for a little while but then went to bed.
Sunday I woke up and half my sinuses had drained. Now I felt like Erik from Phantom of the Opera that only half my face was in pain. I sold the two pieces I put into the art show so that was nice. I did a panel on puppetry and costuming with my friend Rachel and another panel with her and Tom on packing costumes for travel. Got a couple of good ideas out of that one. Took yet another nap and then went to dinner with the Greenbergers which was very pleasant. I went to the dead dog party and had a great time talking to various people I have now known for over 10 years. Where does the time go? Next year is the 20th anniversary of Farpoint and the 10th anniversary of Snow Con. Should be interesting.
Today I am packing us up to go home. With some good luck and pixie dust, we should be home this afternoon which will be nice. It has been an interesting week but I am ready to get back home.
I am grateful for all the fun I did have through the sinus headache haze this weekend.
