Farpoint 2011 The Rest of the Story
Feb. 22nd, 2011 10:31 amBut first our thoughts and prayers go out to the people of New Zealand who were affected by the earthquake. I am still waiting to hear if some of the people we met when we were there are OK.
2nd Crafty Tuesday will be Wednesday where I will talk about the Wig and the make-up for the girls.
Farpoint was, as usual, a lot of fun. There are things that you know are going to happen in a certain order and other things that are pleasant surprises. Since Farpoint is a smaller convention, the time with the guests is more per attendee.
We just missed the snowstorm in Baltimore that held off until Monday night. We also missed the snowstorm Sunday into Monday. By the time we got home, there was about 2 inches of snow on the ground so the grass is covered again but we were able to get the walk and driveway in shape in under an hour. So this round was pretty without being backbreaking.
Farpoint is where I catch up with a number of people that I haven’t seen since either DragonCon or Shoreleave. We talk about family and other things that are going on. We talk about friends lost and found. I spend a good amount of time on Sunday sitting on a comfy chair while the convention ebbed and flowed around me. People joined in and left the conversation as they needed to.
Caroline had fun with the big girls and the kids her age. Ariel had fun with her friends. They both had fun with the Masquerade. Caroline was Charmcaster from Ben 10:Alien force. She got to toss the Ninjas around with her mind powers.
Ariel’s costume was entitled “Why Cats make bad Green Lanterns.” The intro was about all the different kinds of Green Lanterns there have been including a squirrel but not a cat. Ariel came out and started to say the oath only to be distracted by a cheeseburger. Yes, we went there. She can had a cheezeburger. She did very well.
The Art Show was pleasant and well run as always. I put some dolls in and got a lot of comments from people but no sales. I don’t feel too bad since sales were slow over all. More to do with the economy than the show.
Bonita Friedericy gets my award for best guest with the fans. She was helping people on and off stage at the Masquerade. She was great with all the kids too. Fun lady to talk to as well. We chatted about our respective families, since we have done a number of shows with her husband John, and theater and our cats. She made everyone who talked to her feel special and they were the focus of her attention. Not that Tahmon Penikett or Laurie Holden were any slouches either. They spent time with the fans outside the contractual times. You could find them talking to fans about their work and the fans loved them for it. Three great guests yet again.
I did a couple of panels on Saturday. One was the children’s panel on puppet making that went pretty well. Then another on being published both traditional and not so traditional publishing. That was an interesting discussion.
Peter and gang announced the Crazy Eight project at Farpoint. More on that in the near future.
I am grateful to the people who make Farpoint so much fun for us.
