Sleep Socks
Nov. 2nd, 2009 11:09 amCaroline has been having a bit of a problem with bad dreams. She can describe the dreams quite vividly and I can understand why they scare her. The problem is that this seems to be happening consistently between 3AM and 5AM and she comes into our room for some reassurance and comfort. It started to happen before we went off on the trip and got progressively worse as we went. I think part of it had to do with the number of time zones we were pulling ourselves through.
On the way home, Caroline wanted to wear the socks that we got in our kits from Quantas. The kit contains a sleep mask, grey tube socks, a toothbrush, and toothpaste. So Caroline put on the socks and went to sleep and awoke declaring with much glee that she didn’t have any bad dreams only good dreams about riding on unicorns and having tea with fairies.
On our leg from LA to NY, she was feeling sleepy and Peter suggested that she lay down and take a nap. “But I don’t want bad dreams Daddy,” she said. “Why don’t you wear your sleep socks since you never have bad dreams in those,” was his reply. She put on the socks and went to sleep soundly and woke up about 15 minutes before we landed with no bad dreams.
Since then she has worn her sleep socks to bed. The one night she fell asleep on the couch and we didn’t put the socks on her, we got a visit at 4:30 in the morning with the tale of a bad dream and that she wanted her sleep socks. I found them and put them on her and got her back to bed. So right now sleep socks equals sound sleep for her.
Luckily we have about 4 or 5 pairs of these Quantas sleep socks so we can keep this going as long as she need the comfort of the socks. I am sure she will eventually grown out of it but right now I am keeping track of those socks which she puts on right before she goes to bed for pleasant dreams. And I am enjoying not being woken up at 3 or 4 in the morning by the bad dreams my daughter had.
I am grateful for sleep socks.
