Farpoint 2009 the Whole Enchilada
Feb. 16th, 2009 08:18 amBusier that I though I would be Saturday and Sunday but it was a nice sort of busy. I was talking to friends and meeting new people and figuring out the new space. It was pretty simple once you got use to the lay-out. Elevators could be tricky to find.
I hear a couple of panels and went to the tail end of a memorial panel for Robbie. It was nice hearing some of the things people had to say about Robbie. This was the second Farpoint that had no Robbie. Last year we had just found out about the leukemia and sorting out what that meant and this year he is gone. Remember what I said about hugging loved ones and telling them what they mean to you? Do it. Life is too precious and too short.
Saturday night we entered the Masquerade with two sketches. Maria and Ariel did a real simple one based on the guy who held up the store with a Bat'leth. We had a slight miscommunication about the lighting cue out. Peter and Caroline did a sketch that went over very well with the crowd.
There is a video that we saw on ESPN that starts with a woman looking out the window because she hears this man chanting "Those Boys Those Boys are much to much" She looks out and the man is giving it his all as the camera pulls back, we see the man and his daughter. He is working with her on her cheering. The tag line was "take time to be a dad."
We took that sketch and asked Marc Okrand to translate it into Klingon, which he did. Peter was the dad and Caroline was a little Klingon Cheerleader. They went out there and give it their all. The crowd got a big kick out of it. I have pictures which I will post later.
Sunday was all about the packing. I got the hotel room picked up and the car packed because that evening was Broadway Bears. We took Ariel's friend Marina with us and her other friend Dannicah joined us at the venue. The bears were lovely. Everyone had their favorites. It was very crowded but Caroline did very well. The Billy Elliots were on hand to auction off a good set of Billy Elliot bears. Bernadette Peters was there as well. A lot of Broadway actors there. And it amazed me how many people recognized the Adventures Club symbol I had on my polo shirt. We reminisced about the club and talked about what a loss it was.
We got home very late, got people to their various beds and passed out ourselves.
I am grateful for all the fun we had this weekend.
