Boxing Day 2008
Dec. 26th, 2008 03:05 pmI had a good first half of the day. We went to the Center for Puppetry Arts and saw "Sam the Love-sick Snowman", which Caroline loved a lot. We saw the Jim Henson exhibit in the Museum there that had all kinds of neat stuff including the LaChoy Dragon, Prairie Dawn, Dr. Teeth, Rolf, The Swedish Chef, Sir Didymus, and a DRD from Farscape among other things. I looked and just marveled at each puppet. Caroline found a child's activity area that included making Muppet faces on felt which she had a grand time doing.
We then went to the Atlanta Historical Society to see the Smithsonian exhibit that has been traveling around the United States. More muppets and a lot of information on Jim's work in various forms of media. They had many original doodles by Jim along with story boards he created for various things. It was a fascinating look into the mind of Jim Henson. I am still processing all the things we saw. The people looking at the exhibit were quite a mix of young and old. There was something for everyone to look at.
We had lunch at Milton's App & Tap which I hadn't been to in over 10 years easily. Great sandwich place with a good beer selection.
Now we are back at the house and I am starting to pack us up for the trip home. I am going to start with the suitcases and work my way to the presents that we are taking home with us. I want to get a majority of it done before nightfall and the next band of rain that is heading our direction. Then we start to head home this evening.
I am grateful for everything I saw today from the joy on Caroline's face as she watched the puppet show to the amazing things I saw at the exhibits.
